Honestly, they have to. It's not like they got much agency. They're there because their boss sent them to be the face of the organisation in a PR event. Which is what the interview is, from their point of view, really. So no matter how inane the questions are, they have to remain friendly and polite.

Came across this by chance. Never heard of this show or of her. The style so perfectly nails the tv history programmes of the past twenty years. They’ve been so dumbed down I spent the first 3 or 4 minutes actually thinking this was legit (though even more dumbed down than usual). She is sublime in her dialogue and delivery; but as parody it treads depressingly close to reality.

@@mydogdeli I did get the wink, but it is noticeable (and culturally interesting, I think) that many if not most Americans do not register those finer points of English grammar which are designed to pre-empt misunderstandings and minimise ambiguity, like the detection and avoidance of dangling participles (heck, plenty of Brits don't). Maybe the melting pot melted so long ago in Britain that there was more time to iron out the hodge podge origins of British English. It certainly seems to me that most Americans (even many well educated ones) do not have any concept of real time monitoring of their own language usage, eg they don't seem to even try to listen to what they are saying as if they were not already primed with the intended meaning, so as to cut down on opportunities for misinterpretation. To me it's a bit like cooking without tasting: you've no idea whether what you serve up will actually convey what you intended.
