Inspired by cartoons of the 1930s, the visuals and audio are painstakingly created with the same techniques of the era, i.e. traditional hand drawn cel animation, watercolor backgrounds, and original jazz recordings.

@@soildwellerI know they didn't create Cuphead, but I believe Microsoft helped finance the game and bought exclusivity rights. So it's owned by Microsoft just as much as the other games I named.

Fun Fact: The fellow pouring the milk (Dr. J.M. Lounsbery), seems to be named after John Mitchell Lounsbery, a former Disney animator, whose career spanned from “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” in 1937 to “The Rescuers” in 1977.

I love how they kept the 40s esthetic throughout the entire thing! From Cuphead and Mugman popping out of the milk (seriously, that looks just like an old commercial that would come from that era) to the singing girls in the background (if you're not paying attention, you'd never notice that they're singing about something that would never be a thing back in those days), they really go all out with that 1940s feel!

@Psycho it's marketing. Microsoft failed this gen and most people, even people who only have XB this gen are announcing they are gonna go full PlayStation, and Microsoft need to stay relevant, so the XB1X and their newfound friendship with Nintendo keep them relevant as a console games company. Nintendo are too late this gen and know that most people will choose a next gen console, that will get next gen games, over a underpowered glorified handheld that will not receive the latest and greatest third party games, thus Nintendo want to sell it as a Handheld Xbox so they can make those 3DS level sales.

@@JNSStudios The opening looks like something you may have seen in the early 20th century, which is the same time period as the style of animation used in Cuphead's graphics. And of course he's pouring the milk into a cup. It's a very loose and silly connection, but I still got a kick out of it.

Cuphead was so good I actually bought it a few times, on steam (for damage glitch to beat the game quicker),windows store,Nintendo Switch and Ps4, this game is so good! I first played it on switch and I really enjoy it and can't wait for more of this game like dlc or a sequel! Would recommend this game to anyone, especially those who like old hand drawn animation! This game is easily a 10/10 for $20 I think it's a steal, I would highly recommend this game!
