Wow finally a 6R140 video thats good quality most annoying part about the disassemble of these assembly are the dang output shaft nut and the center support snap ring. Glad they got rid of that with the 10R140 made my life so much easier. Keep up the quality videos.

I tried to respond to your comment but couldn’t get it to go through. What is an L/S kit? The trans I am working on is out of a 17 Super Duty. The L/R clutch is heavily damaged. Everything else actually doesn’t look bad other than some nasty fluid. When I took the valve body apart I only saw 2 of the 3 check balls. The other was in pieces, 2 of which were lodged in the valve body worm tracks (1 piece in each half of the valve body). The one that broke apart is supposed to live in the “bath tub” cavity and looks to be able to seal off one hole or another in the separator plate. The bath tub lines up with the 3,5,R valve. My thought (and I would very much welcome your opinion) is that the L/R clutch was being applied in 3rd and 5th and basically dragging during that time bc of the check ball being gone. I am going to use the Zipkit, seals/gaskets, frictions, L/R steels, filter, and a fresh converter. I feel like it will turn out well.

You are correct. Sounds like a plan. L/S kit is a rebuild kit with clutches, minus steels. Only thing I would add would be the molded pistons in the 4-5-6 drum.

No valves. There is a drain back ball and spring.

Okay 30 plus years as a tech, dove into transmission repair/rebuilding harder than ever about a year ago and fairly happy with my progress (I have built about 60 now of various types and brands). First 6R140 and I thank you for both videos. Were you able to pin down the reason for the intermittent neutral issue? Something in the valve body as nothing else looked bad enough with the clutch packs or splines/sprag?

These are bad about valve bodies, internal harness, temp sensor and breaking the 4-5-6 drum. This unit I put a L/S kit with pistons, internal harness, temp sensor, Sonnax Zip Kit, filter and a T/C. Seems to have fixed the issue they were having. I have a buddy that does a lot of these. He says that almost every one of the valve bodies he takes apart the check ball is coming apart. I have only seen like 3 of these and I have not seen that problem. Had one a few weeks ago that the 4-5-6 drum broke on it.

What year unit? The one I just did had fretting ring above sprag 2017

2015. Somewhere around 2017 they added that fretting ring which changed the support and clutches also. They also eliminated the bearing on the support for the planet. Which eliminated the plate on the planet.You can back service it as long as you change all of it.

Anyway you can tell me if the spline for drive shaft is easily removed after you remove the lock tite spin on nut

The output shaft bearing likes to come apart and chew up the output shaft it’s a caged roller bearing also input shafts like to break and I would sell not overhaul the main control valve body
