For some reason in my ignorant mind, its really cool to see the joint glued together then cut in half, seeing the inside of the joint, and it still holding together.

I was thinking of doing this to get a rounded corner. Didn’t think I’d actually find a video for it 😆 I want to use as a foot stool and on thinner wood tho, but I’m inspired.

That 10% like rule is most perplexing. Some manage to beat it and Matthias certainly should. Since the remaining 90% don't dislike then I can only assume that most viewers are lazy consumers of KZfaq videos with little respect for the time and trouble people like Matthias put in. My suggestion: click like before viewing, you won't be disappointed.

Well done, Matthias. I just started my very first woodworking project in 19 years. I have been using many of the tricks which I noticed in your videos. This project isn't perfect, but I'm [re]learning a ton as I go. Thanks for sharing so much of your expertise (as well as mistakes -- those are incredibly valuable).

tearing can be caused when grain reverses or becomes side on,like when you come to a joint with router or plane the grain may be completely side on. put some 4x1 in vice vertical,plane it, as the blade comes to the far edge its splits a router bit can have the same effect, but if you run it in the opposite direction carefully its rares to tear or split. the joint shown is a large curve so should be ok with a fresh router bit. hope it helps

But then do you only do the back 2 corners to match the little wall, or do you do all 4 corners?

Great job. That should work for a while. But kids are like that, as they get older they get better at being curious.
@532bluepeter18 жыл бұрын
That was a neat solution. I would have glue laminated that fro plywood around a mould which definitely would have taken longer. With regard to the difficulty of assembling the joint I am sure that if you have used polyurethane there would have been less friction in assembling the joint. I regularly use one called Fastgrab in the U.K. and that really helps make joints slip together although the open time is limited as the name would suggest. P.S. I did not mis-spell mould I am English.

Then i thought about maybe this would show the legs connection to the desk and look bad. Then i thought aww fuck it, Its just to stop the baby destroying the pc anyway ::

Very nice as usual. If I were to do something similar for a table, where the table top would cover then I probably wouldn't cut out the inside with the handsaw because I wouldn't be visible, and provides more surface area to support the table. However, since your project sits above a table top, it makes more sense and looks nicer to round off both the inside and outside.

Been trying to do some woodworking, but DIY isnt really a big thing in my family. My father has been buying all sorts of unnecessary junk which never even get used, and its all piled in the store room, so I cant even find the old drill, which I dont even know if it still works or if it even has a single dril bit. I ended up making a hole by using a screw to make a tiny hole through a wood and then using a tiny screwdriver to drill the rest of the hole. I just feel so envious looking at all those tools lol
@de05097 жыл бұрын
Btw, to explain the situation in better detail, he bought an exact same model of vacuum cleaner that we already have, because this new one is about $50 cheaper. Like wtf, you didnt save $50, instead you merely spent money for no good reason. This. Times 10 or 20
@terryharris33933 жыл бұрын
A long open time epoxy would be a better choice for your glue up since it does not swell the wood fibers as a water based glue does and actually acts as a lubricant when engaging the the parts. Just remember that open time is a a strong function of room temperature and the epoxies quoted open time will be for 22C (72F). For each 10C (18F) increase in temperature there will be an approximate halving in open time or doubling for a 10C decrease in temperature. Because of this temperature/time relationship I generally select a 60 minute epoxy in the summer and a 30 minute epoxy in the winter. A 60 minute open time epoxy will have a 44, 36, and 30 minute open time at 80, 85, and 90F, respectively. A 30 minute open time epoxy will have half those numbers. Knowing your shop’s temperature and an estimate of the time to mix and apply the epoxy and assemble the parts plus time to adjust the parts will inform you of what open time epoxy to start with.

That was great, only thing I would have done also is turn the desk upside down and use the new fence as a guide for a trimming router to match the old corners to the new.

I only mentioned it because it would have save you time doing all the finger joints/hammering/glueing. Matt Rushing has a video on "steam bend windsor chair parts"...that is basically the principle to bend wood. He uses cords or rope to keep the form....dont know how accurate that can be...
