You have a very unique style of teaching that matches my style of learning. I have been struggling with the nice thin pieces of fabric between 2 pieces of fabric. The look of a crack in a rock. Whatever is the little thready piece of fabric for?

It's a little "cotton tail", you start with it so the machine doesn't "eat" your fabric when you start sewing, you cut it off near the end and use it to run off your fabric. It saves time with lifting the foot, and thread because when you cut the thread it's just behind the cotton tail...

Since your bottom and top fabric isn’t lined up with your machine’s 1/4” line, how do you keep a constant 1/4” seam? Is your foot lined up at 1/4”?? Thank you!

My machine doesn’t have a 1/4” line. I believe the smallest line measurement is 3/8”. I’m using a 1/4” sewing foot. Happy creating!

Hello Heidi, I have a problem I hope you can help with. I am trying to make a Joseph’s Coat of many colors and I want to make vertical strips connecting two colors with this curvaceous technique but so far I can’t figure out how to do so without lots of fabric waste. I want the final piece to be 2-1/2” wide by appx 50” long. I want to sew 3 strips together and align the curved sections. I am having difficulty with getting the vertical edges to match up. Do you have any suggestions?

Heidi, I just love your creativity. I have tried this method, but have not had much success cutting as the fabric keep moving. Any tips? I am lefty things a little different for me. Looking forward to your finish. TFS!

I find that I have less movement if I use my smaller rotary cutter. Also, after you start the cut about an inch or so, try putting a finger on both sides of the cut behind the rotary cutter. I hope that helps, Janet.
