Still another episode of the short lived 1967 ABC-TV western show.In this one,Custer and his men are guarding a gold shipment, and are under the command of an incompetent imbecile.Complicating matters further, they have a Benedict Arnold among them, who is actually a spy for Crazy Horse and his band of savages.

I started to watch this out of curiosity, figuring it would be one more bad 60s serial. It is cliched and formulaic, but in terms of expressing the mythology of the West through popular culture, it is a pretty interesting and well written show.I think I will watch some more of these.

I've heard of this series for years but this is my first watch. It looks like this series was very well produced! As it came from the same stable at 20th Century Fox which produced other top notch action/adventure shows like 'Daniel Boone' and 'The Monroes', it's no surprise. All 'western' themed and high caliber in quality. Thanks for posting! I'll be getting the DVD so I can get this onto the BIG screen for sure.

Interesting that you mention "The Monroes". It happens that Wayne Maunder guest-starred in the first episode of the show.

Lynne - I ‘think’ I recall that! I have ‘The Monroe’s’ DVD and need to revisit it as it’s been a while. Wayne was perfectly cast as Custer. Interestingly, a few episodes in on ‘The Monroes’, actor James Stacy guest stars as an old friend of the family. A very good episode. Two years later (1968), James would costar WITH Wayne as two half-brothers in the television Western, ‘Lancer’. This was another 20th Century Fox show. It’s a good watch, lasted 2-yrs but IMO, not near as good as ‘’The Monroes’. If you’re in to westerns, another short-lived and obscure western that ABC aired the same year as ‘Custer’ and is BETTER, is ‘Hondo’. ABC gave both shows the axe that season. ‘Hondo’ is based off the John Wayne movie of the same name and stars Ralph Taeger. It’s available on DVD and I highly recommend it. Check it out!

Years after the Little Big Horn massacre a newspaper man was interviewing some of the Native Americans that were in the batgtgle, and they asked them how long the battle lasted. Well, there was no words in their language like hours or minutes, they didn't go by that time frame, so they thought about it and finally told the interpreter this" "THE BATTLE TOOK AS LONG AS IT TAKES FOR A HUNGRY MAN TO EAT A MEAL." Custer was trying to be president, I feel sorry for soldiers any time they are under an egotistical and power hungry officer.

There's never been any indication Custer had plans on running for office; in fact, considering the problems and court case he testified in earlier that year (1876), I wouldn't be surprised if he'd decided to avoid that line of work entirely.

There was more than enough room for both red and white, and plenty of wrong to go around on both sides. If columbus didn't take the wrong turn, the south american natives would of come north and done the same thing the whites did. For that matter most of the tribes were fighting each other as much as the whites. People are people and all of us have been shooting each other since Cain and Abel.

He was 23 when he became General. He was brevet, a temporary General during the war In many of the world's military establishments, a brevet (/brəˈvɛt/ or /ˈbrɛvɪt/)[1] was a warrant giving a commissioned officer a higher rank title as a reward for gallantry or meritorious conduct, but without receiving the authority, precedence or pay of real rank .

According to established research, Custer was not scalped. Nor was he in any way mutilated. He was killed by a single clean shot to the chest. He was shown respect by the enemy. See "The Fights on the Little Horn" by Gordon Harper. Casement Publishers, 2017.

It was only later the indians realised custer was commanding the battle. Read the indian depositions if you want facts.

Um. Okay. I took it just long enough to see a super-Hollywood-handsome-Custer say one line and then I had to turn it off upon seeing the supposed "Indian", attired more appropriately for a Daniel Boone episode, watching surreptitiously from the trees. That was all I could take. Sorry. Amazing we used to watch such awful nonsense! My dad scoffed so loudly at this particular program, it's one I never really got to see. Just as well from what little I see now! Even worse'n "Alias Smith & Jones"!
