So it’s government property. Would be interesting to hear the rationale for how it can be sold privately.

This is the property of the United States Government. Can you show the original bill of sale when it was sold to a member of the public? You, Sir are selling stolen property and your company should be charged as such……. Do not cheat, lie or steal or tolerate those that do…….

Selling is the right word. It should be in a public museum after all. At West point at the very least.

I think it should be at the museum at the custer battlefield in montana at the Crow agency. Not in some rich persons private collection. This item needs to be protected and preserved.

There should have been Guidon's from Reno and Benteen's troops. Where are they?

Yeah, you "think the same" alright. Of course. Or there would be a huge stink about auctioning this item, wouldn't there? Custer was not a mere "celebrity;" he was rightfully a national hero in the context of the time, and indeed in the context of our time due to his Civil War record. The flag was finally found on Foley's body because the Indian women did not come upon him after the battle. Yes. Because those women were there to mutilate, desecrate, and loot the fallen soldiers, and if they'd spotted Foley's body despite being a distance away and in the tall grass, they'd have taken the guidon pursuant to that activity. Yes, we were selective with the way we interpreted history in the past. Clearly, some things never change.

Should of found a good home for the flag. Bad idea to keep it in private hands. This flag has death all over it. It should be in a place to honor the dead of both sides of the battle.

A lovely video. The gentleman refers to Custer's Cavalry units as "companies" Cavalry units are called "Troops" Infantry units are called "Companies" It is not Company M in cavalry. It is: M Troop or I Troop. A "Trooper" is an individual in cavalry. An individual in the infantry is a soldier or commonly "a grunt."
