Just finished this winter project. Track is all wood. High banks are 8’ and 12’ radius - sand added to paint for extra grip. Banking goes to 90 degrees!

Thanks for the comment Steve. We race multiple cars on this track, 1/18 and 1/24 scale. Once you get the feel for the track it’s very possible to pass in many places with either scale but it is easier with the smaller scale(s).

Need to put some Carisma GT24-B's on there and let em rip; have room for passing with 1/24th scales. Great work on the track overall-very nice finished product. I built an off-road track myself in my basement composed of wood, rubber flooring, and covered with carpet. Plenty of elevation change, but no subfloor so nowhere near as nice finished lanes. Your lanes would be better for beginners because you technically can't go outside of them. I used probably 1/2" by 1" wood strips from Lowes for the lanes on the ground, but the buggies are able to drive over them, and I never put in a sub floor so I can't anchor any lanes to the floor securely besides nailing them together. Great job on the track.
@jonludwig4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comments! We run 1/18 & 1/24 scale on this track. 1/18 (open wheel) is great once you get some laps under the belt - many places to pass. 1/24 is definitely easier and they’re 4wd and wicked fast. As for the track, the walls turned out great and yes, you can run up against them without going over them most of the time. We put tire glue on our tire sidewalls which really helps them slide along the wall instead of gripping onto (and over) it. We just added grip sand to all of the curves last weekend. We used it on the high banks and it turned out so nicely that we decided to do the curves too. Huge improvement to the overall drivability of the track. Thanks again!
@JIMJAMSC10 ай бұрын
Insanely overbuilt... Every track I built indoor and out I quickly bore with so the ability to change is important. For banks I cut out the templates/ shape with plywood which could be spaced far apart seeing they are not load bearing and then used thin sheets bent to form and secured. To change simply move them. Painted pool noodles which can be bent to taste again allow ability to easily change.

Congratulations on the effort of putting together the track. I see that it was very laborious to assemble the part of the elevated curves and they are not used as well, perhaps less height to be able to take it at full speed, otherwise I do not see that it is optimal to use it over the flat internal part of the curve.
@jonludwig Жыл бұрын
we can easily hit the high banks at full speed and reach the top of them if we want to. the driving part of the video was from the first few laps ever run on the track. the high banks are also much faster than the flat parts of the curves.

We run a couple different scale vehicles on the track. I’m not familiar with the cars you mentioned. There is sand (grip) in the paint on the track surface so I’m not sure a drift car would be the way to go. Either way, thanks for your input.

Thanks for the comment. We run multiple cars on the track, 1/18 and 1/24 scale. I have a pretty decent idea I guess, if you know what an emax interceptor is, great! If you don't though, it's a 1/24-ish 2wd FPV car that is fully proportional. It isn't the most "torquey" RC car but it has a nice top speed of around 15-20 km/h depending on the surface. 1s LiPo battery, built in car charging! And a nice FPV camera. You'd have to keep your speed up for that climb though. Not the most powerful, but once it gets going, (it's pretty good at accelerating, don't worry) it has more power. You can race with friends in first person. It can slide out if you aren't careful and it makes it really fun! Just an idea though. They are about 55 USD for the car and the remote and 90-ish USD for the Goggles/full RTR kit. The other one/cheaper one is still RTR but without the Goggles. Going around those banks would be epic in FPV The track looks amazing too! :)

Thanks for posting the floorplan of it. May I ask how wide the lanes are? Did you end up finding it sufficient for the 1/18 scale cars? I'm building a 1/10 scale track and wonder how wide you'd recommend it to be based off your experience with yours.
@jonludwig3 жыл бұрын
The lanes are 21-22” wide, basically the width of 3 cars. It is a little tight but we like it and find it more challenging and less boring that way. I would probably go with 4-5 car wide lanes for a bigger 1/10 scale track. Good luck with your build!
@Funcentric3 жыл бұрын
@@jonludwig cool. Thanks for your response. I appreciate you taking the time to get back to me. I’ll go with your suggestion and lean towards the wider end of the scale.
