Mark Novak from Anvil Gunsmithing took a nearly ruined Martini Henry and turned it into a custom pistol. The project was for Eric of IV8888. I saw it first in 2019 and it has seen a couple transformations since. This video is to chronicle the changes of this killer little custom Martini Henry CQB pistol!

I liked 'geezer punk' myself. Despite being a geezer. The British used the term "Mark" much in the same way the U. S. uses the letter "A" (for alteration, it appears). However the Brits system of identifying various bits of ordnance was based on a different scheme. (I have not fully broken the code, either.) The basic rifle was called simple Rifle, than distinguished by either caliber - like .577 Snyder - or maker - like Enfield - or maker and designer - Lee-Enfield - or distinguishing features - Short (barrel length) Magazine (not a single shot) - and the Marks were variations on the basic design. The standard rifle in the First World War was the "Rifle, Short, Magazine, Lee-Enfield, Mark 3". I may have put that wrong in some manner; someone will correct it with my blessing. Then, what we call the M1917 Rifle was designed in Great Britain and was adopted by the British Army (in .303 British) as the 'Pattern 14'. It was adopted in 1914, being designed by Enfield of Great Britain. I have attempted to figure this all out. Despite the excessive pulling of hair, I am still not bald.

I saw a really messed up martini at a gun show a few months back and didnt even bother entertaining the idea of getting it. I want to find a messed up one to do that to now

That is rather interesting. I rather like early cartridge ammunition. I know it is derived from the British .577 Snyder cartridge. It did see service - and well done - in Africa. Originally, it was a black powder round. Is that what was used? Did anyone chronograph the round? Any purpose other than showing off Mr. Novak's gunsmithing skill? Any plans to hunt?

Yes, it's still black powder. From what I hear, Eric did take a whitetail with it.

Is holding the handgun pointing up & then bringing down to the target to allow the powder in the case to settle close to the primer and get better ignition ???

The grip angle is unique. We're all trying to get our hands nested into the rear of the grip.

@@PatRMG One is reminded of the earlier single shot BP pistols and to a lesser extent, single action grips. I should think that extreme angle would allow the pistol to 'roll up' in the shooting hand, somewhat softening the recoil. Of course, that would slow down the rapidity of fire, but it's a single shot, so that aspect doesn't matter.

130 grs. of powder out of that short of a gun....DAMNN i'd bet that's a handful with or without the stock!!!...i shoot 100 grs. out of my CVA and it kicks like a mule can't even begin to fathom the wop this would have with that short barrel...well now that i watched the guys shoot it maybe not so bad still i'd have to try it for myself of course lol...i have to say this is a sweet little "BUBBA" gun...and Mark using a piece of black iron pipe to sleeve it got to say that's thinking outside the box i've had it done the other way but never thought bout going over the outside to save the bore..now you guys have me thinking....that is not a good thing..work bench here i come....
