In this lesson, i'm gonna teach you how to make a custom post type with taxonomy filter in Wordpress without plugin. We are going to filter our image gallery with the taxonomy terms (category). Everything will be manageable from the Wordpress dashboard. We used the isotope plugin to build this galery filter.

Thank you so much, well, go to style.css and edit style. you can inspect element on google chrome to see where the CSS or the style is located and change it. That's it!

Thanks for the tutorial! Is it possible to change the URL dynamically depending on the clicked filter? So that you can use for example url/page#category-01 to have a preselected selection.

@@bl4204 for example if you want to go to single post, the URL will change dynamically. But like i said on the taxonomy filter itself, it could require some trick to change URL. On the other hand, what you do, try to add permalink on the taxonomy term, to check if you would have the correct link for the taxonomy, if you get it, you can prevent it from default behavior and get the category link dynamically without going anywhere.

I would recommend a "load more" button with Ajax where you can filter a category in one page, instead of pagination, but the pagination could work if you still have the taxonomy filter. For user experience, i would choose a load more button.

Thx a lot, i really appreciate! I think it's possible, it's kinda the same process, display all the tags first after display your posts by tags and try to realize the filter.

@@emmannweb Thanks, I am trying to achieve this to have both taxonomy terms and tags available to filter at the same instance. That's where it's getting complicated for me. For example, it will will have filter by category and also filter by tags. Any help would be appreciated. thanks

With load more button(via AJAX), we already have the pagination, each time you click load more button, the number of post per page will be added asynchronously

To better undestand, we didn't use a wordpress plugin, we used a third party plugin to achieve our filter, check the source code that we provided; but you can check also the official website if you want to know more about it in this link: isotope.metafizzy.co/

You did something wrong probably, verify the name of your custom post type. Just try to download the code and compare yours.

it should work, there is plugin (isotope) that makes the filter manually, with Wordpress i made it dynamic.

@Priyanka Surve okay, so you could try something like this: developer.wordpress.org/reference/functions/add_image_size/ add_image_size( 'custom-size', 220, 180, true ); after that install a plugin name "regenerate thumbnails" to regenerate your your images.

@Pavas Dave okay. In the example i gave everything works, please check in your code and make a double check. If you saw certain category not working with the filter, make a right click to inspect the code to verify if all the categories are showing.

This does not work as shown - you forgot many steps - like loading the js, enqueueing, etc. Also does not work on an archive as you have to remove loop and add it the custom loop. This didn't help at all, sadly..
