In this tutorial I’m going to show you how to create custom post type in Wordpress. Also, we will add a custom taxonomies (categories and tags) and connect them with this Wordpress custom post type. It is really easy and since we’ll do it without any extra plugin and it will take only couple of minutes.

If you do that then do it like this: 1) Write down your old CPT slug. For example, if it is "post_portfolio" then write it down 2) Deactivate the plugin 3) Create a CPT using this method I showed in the video. IMPORTANT: as a slug use your old slug post_portfolio 4) If you do that then you will not lose any old content

Is there a similar way to do custom pages, with a page template (e.g. to create a custom product category page that displays subcategories in a particular way, that is reusable for all main product categories)? Or do I need a custom fields type plugin for repeater fields like that?

You would need custom coded page or posts or product templates for that.

What do you mean by that? In order to have an archive you need a post type.

@@wpsimplehacks only have archive page ex like testimonial where you design archive page or use the meta to use in skin design but don't link to the page

You don't nood the CPT for that. Just create a regular page
