I dropped a customer recently who wanted to tell me how to cut her yard in a similar situation as the 1st part of the video. She wanted it super short to look like her neighbors. I told her that your neighbors cut their's at least once a week and then she said well I don't care if you leave grass laying on top. ABSOLUTELY NOT MA'AM!!! Plus fescue thrives at 3.5" and above. I told her that I'd have to double cut it every time to get it like she wanted it due to her saying absolutely not to weekly. She said the last girl did it. I told her that if I double cut it, it'll be an additional cost to her price. I said ma'am I operate a licensed and insured business and I have a reputation to maintain.

Build a pricing structure and stick to it. The thing with most "negotiators" are just using the philosophy, "if you don't ask, you don't get" and will understand when you say no, and you don't have to give them any explanation why not.

You're absolutely right Nick I find the more friendly you become with anybody you're doing business with, whether it be your local mechanic or somebody you're providing services for they always try to take advantage of you especially if they're Penny Pinchers. I've had that happen with 2 personal mechanics now gotten real friendly with them and they seem to think they can push you off and make you wait for Stuff because they figure you're a nice guy and you'll understand but it don't work that way I should be treated like any other paying customer so it's best to keep business, business and pleasure pleasure.👊😎

Yep. Always stay professional with a customer at that business level. I even try to avoid emojis to keep it professional. That personal level usually leads to the customer trying to get some sort of discount or special service (even maybe even a different manner in how you normally run your business). Texting can come off wrong sometimes without verbal communication. You may mean no harm but it may be perceived wrong than what you intended. Always slow down to text to spell things out in detail when you text and whenever things are in question, call the customer.

I've been watching a lot of these landscaping/mowing channels lately because I'm doing research trying to decided which mower I'm going to buy, and I've noticed a pattern from you professionals. Apparently the phrase, "It's a jungle" applies to any yard that is 1-2 weeks overdue for a crew cut! You city folk crack me up! I only cut my grass twice a month and when I do I cut it at 3" because that's the way I like it. I'd cut even less often if I didn't have to worry about snakes! lol! Thank God for country living! If I were a city dweller (or worse yet lived in an HOA), I'd be getting cited for code violations every month! PS - But I do agree that once a month is ridiculous. I don't know why any lawn mowing service would agree to that interval for a "regular customer" in the first place unless there were a "50% upcharge," as one commenter here mentioned.

Hey Nick, Yes, You are Right after having to Learn it the Hard way, Sorry That Happens..... Normally at the End of the Day these Customers Really Don’t care about you, They need a Service & you Provide That Service, They will drop you like a Bag of Hammers for a Cheaper Price. Many are Loyal but not All, No Matter how Good of a Job you have done for them in the Past. I’m in my 2nd season & I did Learn a Few Things: I have gotten Burned in the Past & it’s a Bad Feeling, Therefore I Do Not Negotiate my Price with a Customer or a potential Customer unless you are an Elderly Individual then I try to Help. If they don’t like the Price I just Move On or I do not do the Extra Service for your Existing Customer. 2nd I have Learned to Always stay Professional at all Times Because Some Customers are to Damn Sensitive 🙄 so it’s easier to air on the safe side of speaking to them. Just wondering if you agree to biweekly cuts, if you charge the customer a normal cut price and add half. So if the job is $100 weekly, charge bi-weekly $150. Saves customer $50 every two weeks and helps you recupe your extra time and equipment abuse. Also if customer wants to push out additional weeks, keep adding half the charge. They push out to a third week, that $150 bi-weekly becomes $200. You get paid for having to cut the yard twice in one visit. Business is business, right? Thoughts? Anybody do this already?
