I hear you. IT job pays my bills to include maintenance and repair on my cars. However when I was younger and poorer I use to do my own repairs and maintenance. However, during the pandemic that force full time telework, the extra 4 hours a day I got back from commutes gave me time to start doing my own repairs maintenance again. Fluid exchange, radiator replacement, spark plug replacement, brake pads and rotors, etc. Slowly going back to the office so some of the more extensive repairs will need to go to the shop. KZfaqrs like Rainman, The Car Care Nut, Chris Fix, and others are great motivators.

ok so by that logic do you also not have power assisted brakes, power steering or electric headlights, as one could argue the same logic. candles in the headlights were by far less hassle than canbus wired electric HId lights.
@TEDodd
@TEDodd Жыл бұрын
@@Steve211Ucdhihifvshi brakes still work if vacuum boost stops. Steering still functions if hydraulic assist stops. There's a big gap between candles and CAN bus controlled headlights. There is a very good life lesson in every Ray Unit and Lauren Unit video. Before any action is taken... step back, determine a course of action, start with the easiest solution to the problem, analyse, correct course of action if needed, analyse again THEN begin the solution. Ray has a very logical approach and uses his 'talk it out' skills to the max. Brain time is high but actual repair time is low. He, and Lauren, have a very refreshing approach to business and auto repair. Let's wish they are profitable and successful. Thanks Ray and Lauren.

I was going to Reeee about the gear oil but it was not needed. To extend the vent hose is a good idea. I like to cut off about a half inch off the hose for a tight fit on the connector as the hose will usually fall off otherwise. Good idea to blow through the hose to make sure that it is open on the other end. Sometimes they are not.

I like it that you also take the damage equipment apart to see its failure. Also, let’s the viewer know what was the cause of the problem and how to fix it to prevent future failure. And yes, we think it was the vent tube due to the lift. It was an extender resulting in damage of electrical equipment always happens with brake lines, and such so very true, a point, that’s always overlooked when installing a lift or doing any type of modification gotta think about the small stuff. You’re doing a great job. Wish you the very best on your entrepreneurship. Take care.

Funny with 4WD: from 1988 to 1994 we had a 1994 Jeep Cherokee with 4WD and 5-speed transmission, and I was NEVER able to figure out if one had to be stopped to engage or disengage the 4WD. We hardly ever had need to use the 4WD, but I did pull over and stop to engage or disengage that. Owner's manual, calls to Jeep dealer never made such stuff clear, and that was before Google....

PSA of the day: Those vent tubes are usually the death of the Toyota ADD and transfer case actuator. That one was probably loose because of the lift (as Ray suggested) but they have a habit of splitting (the hose) over time, on the end that attaches to the plastic nipple. It's a good idea to check these regularly and snip the end when they start to split. I have some small stainless tubing that I use to super glue in as a splice, when you start to run out of rubber tubing. Any moisture in that actuator absolutely kills it. Another great video, Ray.

Great stuff called CorrosionX. It’s a corrosion inhibitor and a mild lube. I’ll put access panel screws and cargo bay floor screws in a paint cup and give ‘em a quick shot before I reinstall things. Nothing worse than drilling out 30 or 40 screws to pull a panel for a 15 minute fix. Those lift kit diff bracket bolts could have used some going back together. It’ll make future you lots happier because corrosion never takes a day off…

What I'm suggesting is you buy one of those floor scrubbers that are used in restaurants or whatnot to clean the floors with and then you could put you know whatever kind of concrete clean or whatever down on your concrete and buff it scrub the whole floor up really good get the oil and all the crap off of there and then you'd have a nice you know work area and then just use that you know whenever you want I'm maybe a weekly thing or monthly or whatever and then you'd always have a clean floor. Plus the wife unit could use it at home yay she'll love me for that. Peace

I had a lemon law case with Toyota because of that rubber vent line on my 2010 Tacoma. It cost them over $5k because they couldn’t figure out the line had a slice in it and kept letting water into the actuator motor.
