My kids shared a Ford that the steering column would pull out like that, and it also had no MIL on startup. Must be a Ford feature.

Very cool of Ford to make it so you have to uninstall the drive shaft to get to the alternator.

It might have been easier to drop the exhaust that was directly under the alternator.

I could change my alternator on my 88 bronco in about 10 minutes. Starter in about 20, only because it took me that long to get down and back up.

While the placement of the alternator in these sucks, and do feel for you Ray, I think a lot of these comments are missing the point. Given the space constraints of a transversely mounted V6 engine in a little compact SUV, I don't think the engineers had any choice without increasing the overall size of vehicle. And it would be idiotic for them to do that, just to save maybe an hour or two of extra labor replacing a part 20 years down the road.

Clamp the handle of an oil filter wrench in the vice to hold the oil filter . Place the indicator on the front of the engine . Angle of indicator stem is inaccurate . A cracked flex plate may make noise under a load .

Dunno if you will read this but way back in the day when I truned wrenches I used a 6 foot long rock bar to pry the lower control arms loose. It never failed. Ive seen that same set up in a Mercury cougar v6. It was a nightmare to remove.

On the battery analyzer, it shows the internal resistance as 4.59mΩ which is milliohms, not megohms. Lower case (m) is for milli. Upper case (M) would be mega.

Just ran out and checked my 2020 Escape with 2.0L ecoboost. All serviceable from the front. Looks like need to drain the radiator fluid to get the main hose into the block out of the way. No insane like this one, but not as easy as most other cars I have owned.

The internal resistance of a somewhat functioning battery is xy milli Ohm (m-Omega), not xy Mega Ohm (M-Omega). Not all testers spell it out correctly.
