These videos are meant to be educational and funny, so if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask!
0:00 Intro
0:05 The shop quoted a new transmission for the customer as there was internal transmission damage due to the low fluid levels.
0:20 The center caps on the rear wheels are supposed to be on the front since they have a hole to access the front hubs to lock them. Instead, the rear center caps were on the front and the customer was just spinning the part that says FORD.
0:33 The rear seat was pushed back and locked in place and now the arm rest sits level and does not dip down.
0:46 All the metal and other stuff in the bed of the customer's pickup made the metal-to-metal noise.
0:58 The customer was given a quote and is looking to see if their car insurance company will cover the damages. If we receive an update I'll be sure to let you know! But looks like they might have jumped over a median or curb since there's some yellow paint underneath the car.
1:12 You can see where it has been spilt/leaked in the back of this customer's vehicle for the past two weeks.
1:21 The shop is not sure what other shop apparently did this but said the bill came to $2000 to fix it all.
1:36 "2011 Honda Civic came in for an oil change and found this message on the radio when the car was turned on."
1:41 2015 Subaru WRX STI. As mentioned the technician has no clue how the customer broke the shift lever and hopefully, there's no internal damage in the transmission.
1:52 The shop gave the customer a quote to fix what's needed but they didn't get anything fixed and just paid the diagnosis time and drove home (bought the vehicle out of state).
2:20 Dodge Grand Caravan - looks like the customer's vehicle has possibly been in an accident in the past and fixed poorly.
2:31 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV.
2:41 Boat paddle and water bottle causing a rattling noise.
2:51 2007 Aston Martin Vantage.
3:00 "Just casually riding and caught this dude's caliper about to light on fire without a care in the world."
3:20 Outro. Thanks for watching!

Actually, I wouldn't listen to it either. There's been a few instances where teenagers have told me something and they were just messing with me. The worst was the day I had to go to the hospital because my mother had an accident, I just got off a 16 hour work day, exhausted as all hell and it was hot as hell outside, kids rolled up next to me and said I left my keys in the door. I didn't think much about it and was fooled, and yeah, I did check. But that was just icing on the cake for that horrible day that I was having.

I wonder if he had just changed the rear pads without changing the rotors or drums and was driving with the parking brake partially engaged. I mean, that would basically mate the pads to the drum or rotor in a short time and would explain why he said they were burning in the brakes. This is the only thing that makes any sort of sense to me based on what that driver said. edit: not the best idea if that is indeed what he was doing.

@@whyjnot420 A standard mechanical parking brake (hand brake etc) is separate from the main brake pads. Having the parking brake on wouldn’t do anything but wear out your parking brake. It is normal, or at least common, for people to “bed” their brakes after a routine brake pad change, but you don’t need to smoke them. Just a few reasonably firm stops to heat them up, snd do that a few times.
@whyjnot420
@whyjnot420 3 күн бұрын
@@jimyeats That might be true for some vehicles, but is categorically not true for others. E.g. My 99 Dakota's parking brake was also part of the rear drums and was just a mechanical way to operate the normally hydraulic shoes. (it operated a little lever inside the drum) I'm pretty certain that the 91 Cougar I had a long time back was the same way, but I can't be certain about that one as it really was awhile ago now.

I once had a customer complain of a rattle from the trunk. I opened the trunk and there were multiple trash bags filled with empty soup cans. The customer somehow forgot about the 50+ empty soup cans, and also didn't think to actually open their trunk to look for the noise at any point. I was often tempted to recommend that customers go get checked out by a doctor for possible concussions.

I had a couple of issues with my old car, one of which was to replace the brake pads, which I could do myself, knew how and what I needed. Got the replacements, but trouble was, the retaining bolts were so seized I couldn't get them off, and knew I'd just strip them if I kept on trying. So I took the car in to the shop for the other issue, and just asked if they could also loosen the bolts for me. When I collected the car, they had done both jobs - replaced the pads and only charged me for the issue I'd brought it in for. Needless to say, they've had all my business since and I'll happily recommend them to one and all.

I suspect these people who report smells that are from leaking containers, for whatever reason just believed the containers couldn't leak. So it never occurred to them that the smell could be coming from the container. Back in the '80s there was a hilarious story about a woman who was stopped in the road blocking traffic. A policeman walked up to ask her what the problem was. She said she'd been shot in the back of her head, and was holding her brains in with her hand. The cop looked behind. She had bags of groceries in the back seat. It was a hot day, and a can of Pillsbury dough she'd bought had exploded due to the heat, striking the back of her head. The "brains" she was holding in was dough. She'd felt the impact on the back of her head, reached back, felt the gooey mess, decided the noise and impact was a gunshot, and concluded she was feeling her own brains. When your mind can't conceive of anything in the car causing the symptoms you're experiencing, it can get pretty creative at concocting a plausible explanation.

I saw an older pickup crab walking because the rear axle was crooked. It was bad enough that the left front corner was on the line and the right rear corner was across the opposite line! The lady driving had no idea the axle was crooked yet didn't think to have it checked since she was having to steer right to keep it going straight. It had one broken U-bolt, and the other one was twisted and showing signs of cracking. She didn't seem too concerned and went about her way. Two days later, she was stranded in the middle of a big intersection during rush hour traffic. The other U-bolt snapped, and the entire axle was ripped out from under the truck! To make matters worse, two other vehicles were damaged by the axle and her truck. I informed the police about my previous encounter with her since she was playing dumb and couldn't understand what happened. Needless to say, she was a danger to everyone, and the consequences of her ignorance was going to be very high. I make every effort to ensure people know about how unsafe their vehicles are. I have no control over what they do with that information. The consequences are 100% on them.

Seeing that tree trunk shifter reminded me of a Mercedes Benz driven by a fellow airman at an Air Force base in Germany circa 1962. It was a '50s sedan with a floor shifter and sunroof hatch in the top. The hatch was closed most days because of the rainy weather in the Eifel, but when the Sun shined he opened the hatch and bolted a long extension to the shift lever, extending it through the hatch and above the roof of the car. As he drove by, onlookers would see his arm reaching up through the roof to shift gears. It was a neat effect, and a celebration of dry weather at last.

I owned a '66 Ford F100 for a few years, with the 4.0 liter straight six and the manual "school bus" transmission. The shift lever was about 3 feet long, and you rowed it like a boat. It finally snapped after 35 years. I had a local shop weld it up, since the Ford dealership couldn't get the part. They said the weld wouldn't work, but it did; I sold it about two years later to a coworker who coveted "Happy Truck", and drives it to this day. This was the famous old Ford F100 parked in the employee lot at MCO, with six very good shades of latex and Rustoleum applied....

I love those old Ford F-Series and those crazy-tall shifters. My uncle had a black 1978 F-100 with one, my cousin a 1979 Bronco and back as late as the early 2000’s a neighbor of mine at the time rented a U-Haul to move and they still had an old 70’s Ford box truck with a 4-speed. I actually drove it for her during the move. That’s an era when trucks felt like trucks and that huge shifter was part of that experience. You’re right, they shifted great but slow. There was a distinct clink-clink whenever you were going into or out of a gear. I remember it vividly to this day. That transmission felt like it would last forever and I bet most did.

As it turns out one of the internal levers broke, it's a piece that screws into the main body of the lever and I suspect it was overtightened from factory. Thankfully Bonalume is great and the very next day I had a warranty replacement being sent to me, I have also noticed that the screwed part is now a different color so they might have done a revision to the part to prevent further issues.

The spray foam for sound deadening in the Aston Martin reminded me of friends who had a Volvo. The wife was rather precious about the car, thinking it was something high end. They got rear ended in traffic one time and had to have a new rear bumper fitted. And that's when she found out there was a big block of styrofoam underneath. She thought that stuff was only used in foam beer coolers and was offended that it was in her car.
