I make a LOT of boxes and this jig helps me to get perfect miters, especially for small box parts. Woodworking is all about the joinery. Miter joints can seem like a pain for a lot of people. This little miter sled is perfect for aligning miter joints so they’re dead on. Plus, it has some really cool clamps that will keep your fingers safely away from the blade. It doesn't take long to make this woodworking jig. In about an hour you will be cutting perfect miter joints for your next woodworking project. If you are interested in making boxes, I suggest making this jig first.

I have to batch out some boxes and to help me do that I made this little small parts miter sled. It only took me a few hours to make, but it's a pretty awesome woodworking jig to have around.

You made a little version of the left side of my crosscut sled. Now I want one.😋 Thank you so much for trying out that runner. I was on the fence about that. Gonna pick some up.

I thought about having this as part of my bigger sled but I sort of like one thing to perform one task really well. And I know that I need a little sled so I got off my butt and finally made one.

Anyone who makes a lot of boxes could benefit from a jig or two. I have to use it this weekend for a customer's box.

Very nice jig. I had a good laugh @8:50 Deal tho! As an alternative you can use Polypropylene Cutting Board for table saw runners. Cheap, easy to cut, no movement, slide like a charm and last for ever.

Appreciate your vid Billy. The jig gets me past the one thing I have struggled with- cutting miters with small stock UNDERNEATH the tilted saw blade. This jig gets us working back on top of the blade which increases safety and efficiency. It also helps avoid standing the stock vertically for tricky "end" miters where rocking and poor cuts occur. Also, this jig does not limit size of miter to the maximum height of the saw blade like other jigs. Am I rationalizing this correctly or missing something? Thanks all the same sir.

Yep I totally get it. I like cutting on the right side of the blade and I'm usually not a fan of attempting to cut miters vertical. A bit sketchy.

Great video! When cutting miter edges for box corners, someone told me to 45.2° as opposed to dead on 45°. Is this something you have ever tried or had to do? Thanks! :)
@NewtonMakes
@NewtonMakes 3 жыл бұрын
I haven't. I don't really understand why someone would. 🤷‍♂️ If a person can cut something at exactly 45.2 then 45 should be a breeze.

@@NewtonMakes This is old but the reason for it is to ensure the outside miter is tight while sacrificing the inside miter which typically is hidden from view. If you aren't spot on with the miter the inside will be tight but outside will show gaps you have to fix. Of course being spot on is the goal but if it were something you couldn't make again if you werent, that would be a way to ensure the best look

Why wouldn’t you do the piece at 8:48 minutes on a mitre saw? Is this more accurate or does it reduce tear Out?

I’m not convinced that shifting the sled by loosening the and retightening the miter slot gadget will stay in place. I own several of these , they need to be rock tight.

Boy, that miter slot runner looks pretty short! The jig here is small but that miter slot runner should be half again as long. Don’t think I’d buy them.
