This video shows you exactly how I made a walnut TV stand to sit on top of a credenza. The TV stand has miter joints that allow the wood grain to flow from the top down the sides, giving it a waterfall effect. If you want to know how to make those cool waterfall miter joints that you often see, then check this video out.
I was asked to make this TV stand for a customer. The customer had a specific vision for how the TV stand should look in regards to the dimensions. But I thought the idea of miters with a waterfall effect would be really nice and luckily the customer agreed! In this project you will see the following:
• Choosing materials to make the TV stand
• Milling lumber
• Cutting miter joints on the table saw
• Reinforcing miter joints so that they are strong
• Making a floating, solid wood panel
• Applying a wipe on poly.

This is a relatively fast paced video on how I made this tv stand with waterfall miter joints. This thing turned out pretty cool, if I do say so myself.

I see what you did there, turn table and produce music. Nice. At first, I was like, okay . . . what was that move?

Amazing. I love that your sled can do straight and 45 cuts. Do you have a video of the sled build by chance?

Holy crap man, your attention to detail is second to none! I hope your customer appreciates the waterfall grain! Looks amazing. Question, would you say it was faster or longer to float the hardwood board than making plywood? Also, would there be any strength benefits to either?

I'm confident that they will. We're already working out details on the next commission piece. Good question. Floating it is way easier. If I had walnut plywood that was the exact thickness I wanted them it would have saved time from making my own plywood (if I didn't add the stretcher). However, the bottom edge and the edges of the circles I cut out would have exposed the plywood and I would have had to cover that in some way. That's why I called an audible and went with the stretcher. Took only minutes to make, strengthened the whole piece, and I can use hardwood. Only "negative" is that it takes away from the simplistic, clean look of only having a panel.

Very very nice Billy my boy. Your TV will be happy. So time ago you listed a hard wood supplier near Flint. Would you please show it again. Thanks so much. Semper Fi.

I’m actually shocked about your method for applying General Finishes Arm-R-Seal. It’s my absolute favorite finish but I only dared to apply it on small projects because everyone says it streaks on big pieces. From everything I’ve read you’re supposed to apply it in one motion without backtracking. It seems to me that you almost apply it in small circles and it looks fantastic. Did you ever have streaking problems? Great built! Cheers from Chicago.

Great job - what did you do with the domino's when joining the mitres together? I have a similar job coming up where I need to join mitres together and want to strengthen the internal joint when clamping. Thanks
