Using 2 vice grips and a twisting motion is the best way to cut / strip off electrical MC metal cable. My video will demonstrate how to do it in less than 30 seconds.

Amazing - so easy, and the wires in the whip did not get damaged in the slightest! If I could upvote by 10 I would! I only had one vice grip and some heavy-duty ratcheting pliers (Robo Grip) -- that worked just fine. After the spiral was opened up, I used the tin snips to cut the metal whip, to keep the wires protected. Pliers to flatten the end of the cut piece, and tin snips to trip the end to make a level end. The collar from the uncut end of the whip screwed right into the cut end and once tighted protected the wires once again!

@@DIYGEEKTEXAS Sure wish I had found your approach a few months ago, what a difference seeing these expert tips from a professional who does this all the time. I installed ceiling fan wiring from the attic into the existing light switch, and followed the traditional advice to remove the wires from the MC whip to trim it, then feed the 3 wires again through the MC, took some time b/c the MC is the same diameter for 2 or 3 wire whips. Thanks again!!

@DIYGEEKTEXAS
@DIYGEEKTEXAS 2 жыл бұрын
The hard part (or the point) was how to untwist and cut without special tool like roto split! After it has been cut you can use metal snip or deburring tool to remove the sharp edge. Even using roto split you will still be left with some rough edges, thats why we use plastic bushing.
