For in-system (carrier) mining, the large number of internal module slots allows the Anaconda to have vast amounts of collectors, especially if you use the 7a Universal (8 simultaneous). You sacrifice cargo space, but when you have massive collectors and an engineered power distributor, you move so quickly. However, for long haul mining, the Cutter's massive capacity makes the many jumps worth your time.

Good point. But plat prices keep dropping. There's no point maximising profit, at least for me

@@lootandgrind I've never actually mined platinum... Back when I did laser mining, it was primarily bromellite, sold to carriers. I genuinely like mining, but it's not in the top professions for raw cash haul these days.

The Vette has better internals for mining to be honest, the jump range is pretty bad, but it works well mining with a carrier. o7

Gonna throw a wildcard at ya, Type 10 Defender with 9 double engineered mining lasers from Zetian's Recall in LTT 198 (it's a permit locked system, so you may need to unlock it, and takes some raw materials and 16 osmium to purchase each laser, so buying 9 isn't that easy, but it's well worth it IMO). The extra range on the double engineered lasers, and the fact that they don't get any "damage falloff" makes up for the Type 10's slower speed, and the fact that they only have 50% power draw means you can fire constantly until the rock is drained with all lasers. Holds 288 cargo (+ 6 in the refinery) , so not as much as the cutter, but still a nice long mining session. 13 active collector limpets (a 3a, 5a and a 7a multi controller) and 2 prospectors (a 3a), so scouting for rocks isn't too much of a chore) Really is a fun build... and laser mining with friends is so much better 'cos everyone gets 100% from each rock!

For me, its my Cutter without question. When i go out mining, im not as concerned about having a blast. im there for only one singular purpose: to make as much damn capital as possible to fund my ambitions and do what I really enjoy. When i go out to mine, i want to make it count. And Nothing makes profit like this thing when used right. and even still, once you get the hang of how she flies, its still very relaxing and enjoyable mining with her. There's also another major advantage it has over the anaconda thats critical.... not only is it able to still have MASSIVE protective shields and weaponry to easily defend itself, its also WAAAAAY faster and nearly immune to being mass locked. what this translates into is a mining ship that is virtually impossible to take down if someones careful. making it one of the safest ships for mining in the game if there's ever any trouble. that peace of mind to me is worth far more value to me than any advantages the conda could give as there is nothing more demoralizing than spending all that time mining only to have a pirate player or enemy ship jump in out of nowhere and destroy not only your ship but all your hard work and profit. you just have so much flexibility with this ship.

Completely off topic, but totally useful... Professor Palin's desire for Unclassified Relics will allow you to bypass the normal unlock process, if you show up with one. Doesn't even cost you the relic. You can do it, then toss to a buddy. Just don't lose it.

I agree that patience and gameplay time play a big role in which ship to use. Myself, I lack the patience to mine more than 200 to 300 tons of anything before I take my cargo back to my fleet carrier. That said, for those who do not own a carrier, the Anaconda's jump range makes it easier to unload, in some cases without a fuel scoop at all which allows even more cargo space. It also has a larger distributor for better handling of more mining lasers. The Cutter has the advantage in total cargo and straight line speed to run from pirates which helps if you are in that situation. Also, I have found that flying around or between rocks in the Cutter could be mitigated greatly by using mining lances with 4 times the range of normal mining lasers. This keeps you further from the rocks and limits the chances of hitting them accidently. Then you just have to rotate your ship and shoot the next rock without really moving the ship at all. I do have a question though: Have you ever considered mining with a Corvette? It has the exact core modules as the Anaconda so it can also handle more lasers and it has both more cargo, and better maneuverability. Enough that you can even core mine with it too! At the great loss of jump range, which isn't an issue if you have a fleet carrier. Anyway, I've used all 3 and I am currently using an Anaconda for laser mining equipped with 6 mining lances, leaving the large and huge hardpoints on the bottom for defense weapons should the need arise. Oh, and the mining lances also do damage to pirates so, I can and have taken out pirates and went right back to mining! Lol. Sorry this was so long, just sharing my experience. o7 Commanders!

Someone else also mentioned using a vette for mining so I'm curious to try it out. But I tried mining with more lasers and it wasn't effective. More limpets was the better choice in my experience. And as I said, I'm not worried about maximising profit. Exobiology is the best money-maker right now. Mining is purely for fun

Well, the ship that made me Elite and a billionaire was the Python. These days, my go-to is usually my cutter, but I've been having fun trying out others for the hack of it. For instance, I made a minimally engineered Type 7 laser miner recently. It's slow, ugly, and hallows a bit like a drunk hippo, but it can mine over 250 tons of material. It forces patience and decompression. My Clipper, in contrast, is very heavily engineered and used to quickly mine for platinum or to quickly grind manufactured materials by relogging at High Grade emission spawns.
@jasperlit1345

I also don't like spending a long time in the ring. I use a Vette, as it has better maneuverability and optional internal space for mining (can take advantage of the 8 collectors from 7a multi limpet controller and still run 256 cargo. I run five class 2 and two class one engineered mining lasers, 256 cargo, 20 collectors, two class 3a prospectors that I run on a seperate fire group so I can fire 4 prospectors in about the time it takes to fire 2 with one 3a prospector. This build burns down asteroids in about 16 seconds without stopping or overheating, and I fill the 266 cargo with platinum in about 30-35 minutes. I don't run a shield as I mine off of my carrier, but a shield could be added but you would only have 17 collectors. o7

The Python. I can be out & back in an hour. That's with standard Limpet Controllers. I have yet to switch over to Mining Limpet Controllers. Then it might even be faster. I keep it at a station with a Raw Material trader & fly to it in my Trading Anaconda. Fill up. Switch the Prospector Limpet Controller for a Cargo Rack & that empties out anything in my Refinery. I can then see if the best price is a Medium or Large Landing pad. If large (nearly ever time) I just change ships & I am away. If Medium I swap out 2 controllers for a Fuel Scoop & Guardian FSD Booster. Switch the Refinery for a docking computer & I'm away in the Python. Sell, back, put the ship back to mining configuration for the next time then back to my Carrier in my Anaconda.

Personally, neither the conda or the cutter are my choice for mining. I prefer the Corvette. Not only because the size 8 distributor can fire 3 size 2 mining lasers continually until a rock is depleted, same as a conda, but it only takes 2.5 pips and 10 seconds to strip a rock which means you can still devote 2 pips to engines making it faster and more nimble than cutter or conda. It'll take 384t of ore - 50% more than conda and pretty evenly matched to the cutter if you choose to take a multi-limpet. If you don't, then the corvette can fly 13 collectors to the cutter's 12, speeding up the process. Last, the corvette can carry a full complement of 3x med laser, 1x abrasion, 1x sub-surface plus 2 Huge hardpoints for those pirates. The conda can just about match that with 1x huge and 2 x large but the poor cutter can't compete with only 1 huge left over and much poorer convergence.

Cutter v Anaconda isn't even close, the type 9 is a much better comparison to the Cutter. You don't _have_ to fill the hold, just do your thing and leave when the squirrels call.

I have mined with both. If doing mapped mining and going for sheer tonnage, can't beat the cutter. But I can't sit and mine for huge amounts of time without getting bored and in VR, it is kind of inconvenient to get the mapped images in the VR display and keep changing them. The Anaconda is about right size for me. Note: I do use my carrier as a mining base. My Anaconda is set up with 4 mining lasers, Sub Surface drill, abrasion blaster, and seismic charge launcher. Plenty of collectors keep the ore coming in and the rear cockpit keeps my perspective away from faceplanting the rock. I can mine any rock I come up against. In Platinum Hotspots you get both surface and sub surface with the occasional sweet candy core to pop. 256 tons of cargo seems about right for my attention span. I normally roll out with 200 limpets and depending on my luck, I am dumping limpets by the time I am down to 100 or so. 8-10 at a time to make room for incoming rocks. If I hit it just right, the last collectors flying have stuffed the hold and pack the remaining slots in the refinery. Pack up shop. Abandon my poor loyal limpets, and dump my cargo at the carrier. For sales runs, I will pack the Cutter as it has better range and capacity. Normally I don't move the carrier as getting a good parking spot in a double platinum system can be tricky.

@@joe20839Without jumping in the game and digging it up, it would be 2 small mining lasers, 2 medium, 1 sub surface launcher, 1 abrasion blaster, 256 in storage, Whatever the 4 bin refinery is, and the other slots class A Limpet Launchers. I typically set out with 200 limpets and depending on my success I am venting limpets by the time I am down to 100 to make space for more ore. Best runs I have 256 platinum and all 4 bin crammed with unprocessed ore for a few more once I dump the hold. Usually that is about an hour of rockhopping at the overlap. Not that it means anything anymore. Oh the long gone heydays of LTD mapped mining... Only reason I have a carrier today. Understandable why they nerfed it.

My mining build is a type-9. Sure it is slow and turns like a drunk elephant, but it has a lot of cargo space and is cheap build compared to a lot of other options. Now when I mine I will keep my fleet carrier parked very close. Fill up with plat, offload to the fleet carrier, repeat. I'll do that until I feel like doing something else and with the carrier right there I can grab one of my other ships and go do whatever and come back later whenever I feel like mining again. When I decide its time to sell all that plat, I jump to the system that has the best prices and offload. Like printing credits. Thanks for the vid!

I do mining maybe couple times a week and just for fun so my favorite way is - krait mk2, 200 cargo, dirty drives and 550m/s faoff boosting between rocks :) Core/sub surface mining, lasers are pretty boring on my opinion. And also I dont look for specific best profitable spots, just jumping around nearest systems and scan rings for hotspots, blowing each core , not focusing on any specific type. Pretty fun and relaxing if you ask me)
