Alexander is one step closer to #vanlife! In the last video we installed insulation, flooring, and a few fun touches for storage and work. Today, things get interesting. We'll cut a 14 inch hole in the roof for a fan, mount a huge solar panel, and wire everything up to the electrical system.
We'll even have enough auxiliary power to run a fridge and fan 24/7, assuming decent weather and ample solar power.

The fridge also opens from the top due to the fact that heat rises and the cool air will stay in the fridge when you open in. It's another way they are them super efficient.

Coming from a 4wd touring background in Australia I would aregue the solar panel should be mounted on an adjustable plate so it can be angled towards the sun and also in a quick release plate with an attachable extensionlead to position in the sun when at camp as most people will park in the shade And that’s a tiny solar controller which if the pannnal in 200watts or more you will not get nearly as much power amperage output

Just a friendly hint make a bracket of the edge of the solar panel to incorporate a windshield wiper this is a beautiful thing to have when you are in areas with snowstorms or out west with a lot of dust . Also if you decide to have a washer Jet on the panel it’s best to have a stand-alone switch in the instance of ice .

Thank you for the video, I really enjoyed it. Just a note on the fridge. The style portable fridge you are using was invented by an Australian company, Malleys of Sydney and called an "Esky". Coincidentally, the one you are using "ARB" is also an Australian company . The overriding reason for the lid being in the top rather than the front of the unit, is not to stop things falling out, although this is an advantage. It's to prevent the cold air falling out of the fridge, which is what happens in a conventional front door style, which is less efficient...PS: I love the van and build...

For the battery/power system...you may wish to install a power converter that can be used to charge the system by "shore" power. I picked up an adjustable output 6-15VDC @60A converter for about $50 and adjusted it to 14.6VDC output to match the charge controller input. It works great for keeping my batteries charged when I am able to plug in to an external source. :)
