Cutting a Hole in the Floor | RWD GTI | Pt 2

In today's video, we continue to push towards a RWD GTI!
We weigh aluminum, steel, FWD, and AWD Subframes to compare the weight differences. In addition, we have to figure out how to wire our existing TTRS fuel Pump to work on the new AWD gas tank. To get our new R32 subframe installed on the car, we have to first make some modifications, including cutting a hole for the secondary fuel pump and cutting an even bigger hole in the trunk so the subframe can fit under the car. We also installed some awesome 034 performance parts to our subframe! Links below!

Small Tesla S or X or model 3 rear motor modified for single output. diff close to where rad used to be, motor near firewall passenger side, connected to prop shaft or you may even get 1 - 2 overdrives in the drive line too giving you a 2 speed transmission similar to the Zombie 222 Mustang...

Oof. This brings me back. Literally every time you try to do something creative, just purely for the fun of it, everyone tries to deter you from it. You can make it blatantly clear that you know it's absurd and it will cost money, but you're willing to do it for the novelty and they'll STILL try to argue that it shouldn't be done rather than just help with whatever you might need.

Did you know that the differential can be mounted on a sub-assembly (made by Bosch) and then angled at 270 degrees to make room for the drive shaft? It allows about 40mm of extra space and would mean a lot less work. The sub-assembly is only about 3kg and costs 25 euros.

You can fit the fuel transfer from facelift S3, or mk6 Golf R and that has the 'daddy' connection to suit the TTRS pump. That is what I did with my 4wd converted GTI

9:28 they make jig saws for that sorta thing ;) I believe my fab/tool knowledge and wrench time may be at least somewhat useful when you guys do things like this, if hiring another tech is feasible anyway lol.

Older A3 8P and the TT 8j has the alu subframe too. Also the TT has Passat alu bearing housing. There are also smaller ones made from alu from s3 and rs3. But the complete trunk bottom is different between awd and fwd.

Since the front diff is before the bevel gear, won’t removing the front axles still just put all the power to the front wheels even if the Haldex is locked... likely just spinning the front left wheel? This may be able to be solved by putting a spool in place of the front diff or just welding it (and balancing)

I’m shocked at how soft all the bushings are on a r32! I’m definitely changing all my bushes this winter, I have the same stock trailing arms and that side to side play is gross!

Well. The hole makes it easier to get diff on. Normally diff has to go on subframe first then in the car.

an R32 early pre 2006 has aluminium subframe (could be late i forget which) and audi s3 8p have aluminium rear subframes dont know if you have them as couldnt see the other golf v r32 has ally rear spindles (knuckles hu s whatever you americans call them) s3 8p have also front alloy spindles
