People in the comments section, you can cut a oak sleeper 200mm× 100mm with an evolution mitre saw, just have to be very carefully use a batton or something of that description to pull the plastic protector up when about to cut the timber, not advisable because can be DANGEROUS but can cut that size timber
@DeeTeaDee7 ай бұрын
What about cutting it long ways tho? Like.. taking some thickness off? The timbers i have are 200mm thick but I just want half that at 100mm thickness to make radiator shelves out of them Cheers

Hi Gary...Blimey, you made that look easy! :) I recently bought the Evolution R255SMS-DB+ - 255mm Double Bevel Sliding Mitre Saw. I need to cut some 200mm x 100mm sleepers, but my new saw says it only cuts a maximum of 90mm? I haven't tried it yet. What size blade is yours? Thanks
@garrysmith11074 жыл бұрын
Hi. The blade size is 255mm Yours should be fine as its the same size. Fantastic saws Evolution.

Video is a lie as confirmed by the guy posting this just to sell his saw. Sleeper is 120mm x 80mm and not 200mm x 100mm as claimed in the title.
@garrysmith11072 жыл бұрын
You are so funny, brightened up my morning. Thankyou for that. I didn't have the sleeper dimensions in the title and I put down the actual dimensions on one of my first comments. Also never hid the fact that the video was to help me sell the saw. So no lies told. Perhaps you should read all the comments and watch the video a few more times before making stupid comments 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

That’s great. Such a useful video thanks. I’m about to order one as it looks ideal. Did you go with a 110v or 230v?

230v as that's a 3 pin uk plug the 110v you will need a transformer

Thanks so much! I’d been looking at the Makitas but couldn’t work out which one whereas this looks much better value.
@garrysmith11074 жыл бұрын
I have Makita cordless drill and jigsaw and can't knock them, great quality but the Evolution is great for the money and if you use it to cut old wood/sleepers it doesn't matter if it hits old nails as it slices through metal with the same ease as it does wood. You can't get better for the money.....I should work for Evolution lol
@tomsexton4764 жыл бұрын
I ended up going for an evo 255 as the rage has been discontinued. I can’t quite get through the depth of the sleeper as the laser and guard catch it. I take it there is no way to adjust the blade height on these machines or larger blade?

Will these saws cut through sleepers at an angle, in one cut?

You may as well have filmed that from behind a wall.

Buddy, you’re supposed to do a few minor cuts on super dense material. Not one big stroke like that, that’s how you dull the blade. No offense intended

When cutting sleeper size wood I find it doesn't cut all the way through but leaves a bit still attached. Am I doing it wrong?

You're wrong there, you can pull the plastic guard up a little before cutting and the evolution mitre saw will do it

Apparently Evolution don’t make a saw that cuts through sleepers 200mm by 100mm… do they? Model number anyone please?

You can cut a sleeper that depth, just pull the plastic protector up

Pull the saw forward, get a piece of batton to lift the guard up then cut the sleepers, should cut right through at least has done for me

Yes, as you can see cuts it like butter. Make sure you do get the sliding mitre and not a chop saw if you are cutting sleepers.

I believe I got £120 for it. The person who bought it wanted to cut sleepers for his garden so when he watched the video of it being used it made his mind up. Worth doing and tagging a link from your advert.

Hi there. Great way of cutting sleepers. I am currently building a flower bed out of 190x90 sleepers. I am struggling with my dewalt circular saw and want to upgrade my 165 evolution mitre saw. I might go for this one. Is it single or double bevel? What was the thickness of the sleepers you were cutting please? Thank you.
@garrysmith11074 жыл бұрын
Hi its was a single bevel saw 80 x 120cm was the sleepers.. only did the video to help sell the saw after I finished with it.

@@garrysmith1107 Hi. Thank you for the reply. Now you say the sleepers were 80mm thick I am unsure whether the saw will cut the sleepers I have in one cut as they are 90mm thick. 🤔
@garrysmith11074 жыл бұрын
@@garethshaw5210 I would have thought the saw would be able to handle that thickness. Might be worth just asking that question in store when you go to buy it. Also might be worth going to a store that deals with returns in a no hassle fashion, just in case.
