Looks like it runs your ass off too, like some more modern but older self propelled mowers. Does a great job of mowing the grass.

Great to see folks looking after technology "the way it was". Too soon we forget, or the next generation doesn't take an interest, and these things are lost forever. Thanks for looking after it and thanks for posting the video. I see it suffers from the same "problem" as my ancient Villiers powered Qualcast reel mower - it mows too fast! That must be one thing they did quicker in the old days. Jeff

WOW, THATS A BIG MOWER. WHEN YOU FIRST STARTED IT UP IT REMINDED ME OF AN OLD MOTOR BOAT I USED TO GET IN WITH MY PARENTS WHEN I WAS A CHILD. GEE, IM GOING BACK TO THE EARLY 1960S. THEY WERE FUN DAYS. AND MY PARENTS, BROTHER AND ME WOULD EACH HAVE A FISHING LINE EACH AND FISH. I WAS JUST LOOKING UP MOWERS AND THE EARLIEST ONE THERE IS WHICH WAS BACK IN 1830 LONG BEFORE MY TIME. WELL I GUESS YOUR 90 YR OLD MOWER WOULD BE MUCH MORE ADVANCED AND BETTER THAN THE ONE INVENTED IN 1830.

Outstanding! It moves considerably faster than I expected. Man, you can make some killer stripes with that bad boy!

Its amazing how quickly technology evolves. Now we have robo-mowers that follow a preplanned GPS route, and only require an electrical outlet for the power base; only needing human interaction if it gets stuck or maybe the occasional cleaning. Still, this old thing is way cooler.

The golf course I worked for had one of these mowers in the grounds crew shop. I begged them to sell it to me almost every day for the 4 years I was there. Awesome peice of machinery

It is real neat. We have a "surrey" for towing behind it that you would stand on, but I think a seat would be much better!

Theres a hitch on it , most likely to add a seat with wheels like the old gravely's did.

I have an old hit and miss engine that I really want to put on a little go kart just to be different, don't care if it's slow no one else would have one!

I have the mower but without the reel mower, never could find one. My engine does the same as your's before, no power during moving it. Never played with the mixture. Runs great as a static display at shows but still able to load it on the trailer on it's own power.

It wasn't uncommon for these to have a sulky on them. It probably needed the cutter bar resharpened and lapped at the time this was taken.

I have a few reel mowers from the 1940's, Eclipse, Jacobsen and a couple other brands. They do make these all to go too fast I think.

look how simple it is to work on. everythingd right out in the open and easy to gett to and no complicated computer parts

I had an old ass reel mower with a 2 horse Briggs. I loved that thing but it needed put in a jig to have the reel properly sharpened. I had access to one of those too but nobody new how to operate the thing.

Pretty cool! This one runs too fast because the governor isn't working properly. Should be a little more manageable once we get it working right.

We have something to hook on that you stand on, but I think it would be nice to get a seat
