Spencer, just a suggestion, whenever you’re going to climb the ladder to the roof & carry heavy items up, extend the ladder so that it is about 3 feet higher than the roof. This will allow you to hold onto the ladder and still step onto the roof while carrying the load.

Hi Spencer, nice work. For a DIYer you've taught yourself a lot and much respect to your problem solving attitude. I thought of a couple things that might make your life easier in the future. In times where you have to install a heavy overhead item like that bump out box you could lay 2x4s perpendicular to the box wider than the box and push it up with the load control poles you already have, that way the box won't fall through and the wood should push the edge of the box flush with the ceiling. Next time you need to move lots of stuff onto a higher surface like the roof of the container you could put all your tools and machinery inside the bucket of your tractor and use the hydraulics to lift it to the same height as the roof deck.

Spencer, next time you are putting a box like that through the roof, weld some tabs to the lowest part of the box. Make the tabs from 1" pieces of angle iron. That makes the tabs "L" shaped and they will not only keep the box from going too far into the hole but give you a little extra to weld to the roof.

Hey Mackenzie, try boiling some fresh Thyme leaves in a good size pot of water. When the water takes on the color of the leaves (greenish-brown - takes about 45 mins), put a load of honey into a Thermos and strain the Thyme water into the thermos. Drink sips throughout the day - this stuff is magical. My local Wholefoods and even Publix has the fresh Thyme. Give it a try - all my friends love it!

Spencer, use your tractor to lift up your heavy items....then climb up and simply pick them up! This could also lift up your generator too...to the level you find more adaptable. Use your pallet forks and even an empty pallet if needed. Nice job, just make things easy for yourself and use your hydraulics whenever you can! 🙂

Kenzie... chop up an onion, put it in a gallon zip lock bag, put your foot in the bag with the onion, zip it tight around your leg (as tight as it will go). Then throw on some socks to keep the baggies on your feet, then go to bed... I was told about this to help with coughs and it works so well!! It sounds kinda dumb, I know... but it works. Hopefully you can get some relief soon. Works for children too, if they need relief.

I love watching how you guys work and troubleshoot. You always persevere and that’s the goal. When the bump out nearly fell through he could’ve said “my heart stopped!” Because mine did. But also, my butt puckered at the same time. 🤷‍♀️ Sooo, I think the response was an honest one. 😆 Kensi, during my pregnancies I had to sleep propped up. Developing cough with compromised lung capacity required it. I was blessed to have a very comfortable recliner with my first and a very comfortable sectional with a chaise lounge with the last two. I now have an electrical lift bed that I wish I would’ve had back then. God bless and keep you all!!

One thing to consider at this stage of the build, security. Build a shutter system to secure your windows from vandalism and entry by building boxes similar to the boxes on the roof. Make them removable for when you are there and then locked down when not. May find some ideas from hurricane country on how they protect from damage and looting. Love the build.

I'm chuckling over the image of Mackenzie trying all the suggested cures for her cough and imagining the reaction from the children. "Can we try some too, mummy?" Here is an extra suggestion that helps me: a mucus clearance device. You blow into it and it creates gentle pressure vibrations in your lungs. They help remove the irritating mucus. Whatever you try, hopefully you will feel better soon.

Have you thought about adding a piece of 2x2 angle iron in the ceiling from side wall to side wall to support the roof at the AC units? If you had put a hand full of self drilling screws through the AC box from the inside they would keep the box from falling through the hole...once it was tacked in place, just remove the screws and weld the holes shut as you pass by them. Or just screw a piece of angle to each end as a temporary foot to keep it at the height you want and keep it from falling through. Also, not sure how many devices your putting in the electric box at the pocket door, but you have WAY to many cables in that shallow box...put a large 2-gang (or even a 3-gang) box with a blank finish plate on it in the ceiling as a junction box and only take one cable down for each device...you'll be happy you made this change.

The best way to dress is in layers in the winter... You can save energy by keeping it cooler inside, and add or remove layers as you work and get hot, or add a layer as you sit and get colder. It beats being uncomfortable or trying to stay comfortable with a thermostat. Older military cargo planes have miles of unused wire in them, because when we wired a new system, we just cut the old wires if we couldn't use them and ran the new wire. Saved time, and often removing the old wire was impossible without major modifications. (I'm suggesting leaving the old wire alone and run the new one.)

Looks great. You do really move work. Hmm, have you considered just temporarily welding metal tabs around the opening that would keep the box from falling in and allow it to line up perfect with the metal roof. Then just drop the box into the hold and weld enough of it in place to secure. Then inside and cut away the metal tabs. Then finish off the welding above. A lot easier than the floor to ceiling braces.

well, it is soo darn hard that we always see the history... I would have loved to scream out: Make the switch to be an - What we call "outside placed" (I am a swede, with our building terms and traditions). We often go to breakers sitting on the surface of the wall, especially when doing fixer-upper builds, where the place in the walls is scarce.... Forgot to tell I so much admire and envy your welding skills - and I have seen them growing, this is so nice.....

Kenzie is showing a lot more now. Build a tall 4 to 6ft table for the welder, or get a 10 to 15 ft hd welder extension cable. At least the two a/c bumps are installed before the rain.

For coughing - if you can’t use an inhaler to open your air passage way - don’t know if you can take an antihistamine since you’re pregnant because that would help relieve the draining down the back of your throat when you’re laying down - some say eat a couple marshmallows before you go to bed and that’ll stop the coughing. Also good luck. Hope you feel better soon.

Spencer, I have seen you climb that ladder so many times and each time I ask myself, "why doesn't he extend the ladder higher and make it easier on himself?" Seriously, extend the ladder a few more rungs. This is easier and safer. It gives you something to hold on to getting on and off the roof.

You will have so much experience working in these small/mini spaces you can open up a custom camper/RV shop! 😁 Flexibility is becoming a theme word.

Mackenzie and Spenser, love your video. Spencer love cutting holes out, he does a good job of welding the metal boxes in place. Mackenzie, you are shaping up nicely. I hope you manage to get-rid of your cough. Keep warm, love from Mike ❤
