Nice video pawpaw. I had given up on my 40w diode laser but you have given me a better insight. One question I have is regarding the focussing of the laser. Some people say that you need to set the height of the cylinder from the bottom of the brass housing to the work piece and others say from the bottom of the lasers casing to the work piece. What would be your advice? Thanks, Colin.
@PawPawsWorkShop
@PawPawsWorkShop Жыл бұрын
Most all of the lasers use the bottom of the laser casing to measure the correct distance. Follow the instructions of the laser. If you have an air assist you can’t measure from the cylinder.

OK so if 5" a min. does as well as that looked but still had a few tight spots due to not getting all the wood fibers cut how about going to 4.8" a min to cut just a bit slower and get thoes last few stragglers of wood fiber. Some times its the smal changes that get it done.

With some lasers they use a cylinder to measure the height of the laser head. Other manufacturers have a small arm that swings down to the material surface which does the same thing.

@@PawPawsWorkShop I have a K40 type laser. 3mm birch plywood and 3mm acrylic are ideal for it. Single pass, at 10mm/sec. but the CO2 laser tube is the width of the entire case. Huge compared to the diode lasers. I hadn’t seen a 20W nor a 40W diode laser. Most seem to be 3W, 5W, or 7W. If it was 40W, should have cut the plywood like butter in a single pass. The CO2 laser does this at 9mA (max power is ~15mA). Thanks for clearing that up.

@@2manytoyz123 40W diode lasers aren't a thing. At the high-end most of these have 5-ish W. Some of the new ones bundle 2 5W diodes into a functional 10W.
