Normally I hate these slide show things on KZfaq but this gave me a ton of nostalgia for some reason 😂 that thing looks sick!

Am holding my breath waiting for your next installment Bob, I have a small hovercraft and you have inspired me to consider building a larger craft such as yours. More vids and pics please.

Thanks , This project has a life of it's own and I find myself 're-inventing the wheel' over and over, But that damn wheel is getting rounder ! Currently I'm finalizing the change from the 2.2 subaru motor to two separate snow mobile engines. This was prompted due to the subaru developing a bearing problem. This required a bit of re-engineering, but I am closing in to new test sessions. I'll post more shortly. Thank's for the interest; I do enjoy your project posts! "KEEP MAKING DIRT !" Bob

This is a magnificent machine! And what a family project! You've obviously put a lot of work into planning and executing this craft. If you won't be selling plans, will you please give us a direction or source in which to go? You must be tired of hearing these sorts of things, but, hey, if you didn't do such a nice job, we wouldn't care. Best regards, Steve Dias.

Hi John, The lift fan I purchased for about $350; the propulsion fans are 'home-builts'. I've tried a number of different construction methods and have had good results using casting resin. Learning the 'Do+Don't's of silicone rubber mold construction has been an interesting project all by itself. There are a lot of instructive videos about this on youtube. I',m putting together a video on this subject, but it's far from ready. Good Luck on Your Project, Bob

Hi Antonio, The wood was just coated with some oil based stain I happened to have left-over from another project. It was to seal the wood against moisture. The skirt was designed to give the craft a 12 inch clearance height because I followed the ratio 8:1 (width:height),and this craft is 8 foot wide. The current skirt design is a bag+finger, this is the 5th skirt design I've constructed. Thanks for the interest in my project and good luck with yours!

I rebuilt a scat 1 and swapped out the single cylinder Rotax 277 for a Rotax double 377, custom exhaust manifold , twin carbs, upgraded hasco hi performance fan, spitter plate, etc. etc. But nothing like this.. This is pretty awesome... Great job..

Great work on your hovercraft, I was wondering if you could tell me how you constructed the fans? Did you purchase fans and then connect them to the engine or did you construct the fans for propulsion and lift yourself? I am currently designing a hovercraft of my own and am debating which route to take. I would like to construct my own fans but am unsure what the best method of construction would be. Thanks

@wlindenlaub I'm glad you enjoyed it. I used Turbocad v11(this is an old cad program). I am very comfortable with how it works. I actually enjoyed the design phase as much as the 'dirt making' part. Thanks for checking my toy out! Bob

Thanks, The bag & finger skirt seemed to work properly, but I had engine problems with the Subaru powerplant. At that point I decided to use two separate engines. One for Lift(Arctic cat 440cc) and one for propulsion(Arctic cat 400cc).This installation is almost complete and ready for testing. I'll post more later.

Thanks Steve, I'm currently trying to put together a sort of scrapbook collection of construction photo's & video's with descriptions & possible narration. Please be patient, as (here's the best excuses I know) I'm 59 ; I work on average 6 out of 7 days on 3rd shift as electrical maintenance; I've got 4 kids and 9 grandkids so it may take a couple more weeks to "git-r-done". But I am trying, Thanks again and best of fortune in your endeavor ! Bob Ahn

Hello, I was wondering if you could help me. I'm working on a similar project and I have to questions. What did you do to the wood so it would look like that? What is that treatment or process called? About the skirt, how did you calculate the size of it. Thank you.

@bobahnjr I've been looking to download a 3d design program for a few months now. I have alot of ideas in my head that I'd like to create. But I don't know which program to try without spending a ton of money.
