Slide Show/Video of my 1987 Scat1 Hovercraft Restoration project

Bought it a little over a yr ago from a guy who owned 4 Scat1 and Scat2 hovercrafts. He's been waiting for me to finish so we can ride together. This is very rare in California.
I have change the original Rotax 277(single cylinder 27hp) to 503 (2 cylinders 50hp) 2 strokes engine (60lbs).
It's not in the slide show, but I change the Stater and the spark plugs, left the coils alone for the engine.
I just cleaned the Mikuni Carb and put it back together and run like a champ.
I have replaced the handle bar and the stem for the steering, also not in the slide show. Change the throttle from grip to finger throttle, it's easier on my wrist. All these changes will be in the next vdo.
All I did is add the skirt, the engine, and the fan. did a little work on the bottom hull with more fiberglass to cover up the holes.

ive been planning to build an rc hovercraft and i really wanted to do a proper finger skirt like a real one but for ages i was confused about how exactly they are designed, i actually learned alot from this video, enough that i feel confident in designing a scaled down finger skirt. mainly i didnt realize the underside of a hovercraft was angled like that or that each finger was actually an individual piece.

I wish I have a dual carb. Through my experiences with two Mikunis, it was unsuccessful. It bogs down a lot with various jets sizes for 2 months. Anyways, I bought a used Bing from eBay and it looked beat up but once I've cleaned it and put it all together, it ran right up with the stock jets.

the patch is still holding. Although i didn't do a deligent job to it, i just sanded with 80 grit and then 120 grit just to make sure the glass sticks. i did it on both sides and front and back totaling 4 layers of glass. i did that because i know myself, i will beat it up. i'm glad you liked the vdo.

YES! You are an inspiration to the SCAT II project I am working on. I am keeping the stock 277 Rotax for the time being. I pulled the carb and cleaned it and replaced the fuel lines over the weekend. Need to clean the tank out as there is still gas in it from who knows when. Where do you fly yours? I cannot wait to take mine out! Thanks for the video.

I took out my stock 277 because it was underpowered. 503 is better. I fly in Lake Perris, CA Check out my other flying vids.

sweet job mate, I have the same scat2 and it has some holes and cracks in its hull how did your fiberglass patch up hold up? and did you patch on both sides? any info you could give me would be great love the video

Wish mine had a single carb instead of duel. I have Mikunis on mine. Mine is laggy/boggy on the bottom end. What size jets are you using? Single carb would be easier to adjust.

this video was immensely helpful but I was still wondering where where u got the pulley for the Rotax 503 because i have the same engine and i couldn't find a pulley that fit the tapered shaft

I am restoring my SCAT right now and this is such a great video. Any chance you know where you purchased your Drive Pully Set from? I realize this is 8 years old. Just hoping.

Hey Scott here from sunny Florida. Watching you vid, I found a old 89 TX 500 that needs rebuilding. How can I get the dimensions of a bag from your craft ? I am sure ours are about the same in size. Any help you could offer I would appreciate.

Hi Scott, the skirt is really the most important part for both aesthetics and air cushion. This skirt I have bought from here www.slipstreamhover.com/ and the lift is over 10" inches high and it looks good. I love it. Unfortunately I do not have the dimension at the moment.

+Scott Newhouse Hovercraft is fun because it go on both land and water. Most of the time when I take it out, I'm always out of control driving these things.
