I learned to valuable points from this video! Prying the axle out (rather than tugging on it) and also how to get the bearing race and balls out. Back to work now. Thanks, ATV Nation.

Thanks for the video mate, after a couple of hours of trying to separate the cv bell from the shaft on my Holden Colorado Z71 (I think you guys call them a ZR2)... After seeing your tool, it showed me exactly where the force is needed to knock it loose 👍🏻🍻

I made my own tool, 5" piece of broom handle. Just use a grinder to angle the end and grind out a groove for the axle....worked great.

@lobreiter That is correct!!! That is why it is so important to drive the joint off of the axle by the INNER RACE only. Use a special driver (like I did) or a brass punch will work. Avoid steel punches as the inner race is hardened and can be damaged.

I am looking for a whole cv axle assembly and seen some of yours on ebay. just wondering how good they hold up and what kind of deals u can give me if i probably bought more than one off you. Also i don't want them to get dinged on the border which will cost me more money, so how can we do it?

what about the inner cv? is there a clip retaining the shaft in the cv?
@SilverCanary15 жыл бұрын
yes. classic circlip that needs thepliers with points on the end. Don't let the round bearing carriers drop off if they aren't also circlipped on, speaking from experience I can say that some aren't clipped on and if you let them slide off the 3 prongs you'll be picking up needle bearings for a while, if you're lucky, and ffs don't lose them or you will probably be screwed royally, though at a push, on an atv you might get away with losing one or two for a while before you can find some more.

Do all outer CV joints come off? I have some cheaper aftermarket axles I have been trying to swap the ends on and no matter how hard I hammer on the inner race they ends will not come off! : (

I was really looking for the tool you use to separate the axle from the CV with hammer but could not find in the market. Is that you made by yourself or it would be really helpful if you can let me know where I can get. Thank you!

I had no problem removing the axles, but I am having trouble getting them back into the differential. I have tried a heavy deadblow with wood blocks to protect the ends. can anyone help? I have seen videos on how to remove but not tips on how to install.

Not exactly the right way to do it... How do you get it back on now since you busted the circlip off
@williamtice83598 жыл бұрын
+MrMatt2066 The clip is ok its still on the shaft.
@SilverCanary15 жыл бұрын
it's not a circlip that you take off with plier is more like a ring (clip?) and sits in a similar groove machined in the end of the shaft. it acts like a detent once the joint is pushed back on and you can't pull the joint back off easily. Maybe catch the joint before it hits the floor to and be wary using a steel drift as it can shatter the inner bearing race which will be a bad time for your wallet if nothing else...

at 4:35 you mention there is correct direction for the outer cage. I took pictures before taking mine apart, but unfortunately the grease covered the small step/recess on the inside of the outer cage. From the outside, I though tit was symmetrical, but it is not. The inner (race?) is easy - chamfer toward shaft. But I can't figure out the cage. One side has a small step on the inside. Does this go toward, or away from the shaft? Polaris Ranger 2007 700 EFI Photo of outer cage www.prcforum.com/forum/attachments/13269d1438381272-2007-ranger-700-efi-service-what-should-i-do-polaris-cv-02.jpg
@SilverCanary15 жыл бұрын
your pic is still up btw lol, and for what it's worth the cage can probably go in either way. the race is different on one side as it doesn't need uniformity in the same places that the cage does and it also has to hold on to the bearings slightly so it has a slight gradient along its grooves and must be fitted correctly to line up with the cage. I'd be somewhat surprised if it will fit together the wrong way round tbh...
@benjamin.25junkie579 жыл бұрын
funny how he dose not show putting it back together cause he fucked it smooth up it comes apart at the inner side of the cv or side closest to the front diff! angle of the dangle
@SilverCanary15 жыл бұрын
as long as you don't damage the inner race and the circlip of the outer joint when you knock the cv off (without preferably letting it fall onto the floor) you're probably fine for something like an atv. An f1 car, perhaps not...?!
