Today, CVA dropped not one, but two additions to their Accura series of muzzleloaders, giving muzzleloaders out there two more muzzleloaders to ponder before next season.
Via CVA.com -
The ACCURAX-Treme Series is all-new for 2021 with two configurations that provide a level of overall performance and ease-of-use that is unequaled by any other break-action muzzleloaders on the market today. Accuracy has always been a given in CVA’s ACCURA series rifles because all are equipped with premium, custom quality Bergara barrels, which are widely recognized as the most accurate production muzzleloader barrels in the world. The new ACCURA LR-X and MR-X offer features never before seen in production muzzleloaders - like quick-take down design for easy cleaning and compact transport, a carbon-fiber collapsible loading rod that eliminates the accuracy robbing necessity of hanging a ramrod under the barrel, an adjustable comb for perfect eye-to-sight alignment with open sights or optics, fast rifling twists for optimal performance with modern projectiles and propellants, and a threaded muzzle which allows the use of CVA’s Paramount Muzzle Brake for magnum charge shooting with minimal recoil. And, most importantly, the new ACCURA LR-X and MR-X are both available in the super-fast and flat shooting .45 caliber, as well as the .50 caliber for states or seasons that require it
The ACCURA LR-X is our longer barreled ACCURA muzzleloader (the LR stands for “Long Range”), featuring a 30” Nitride treated stainless steel Bergara Barrel. The LR-X is designed for the hunter that wants the extra velocity that longer barrels provide, making longer range shots a bit less difficult due to decreased drops. Perfect for the western plains or eastern bean fields, the ACCURA LR-X is available in Veil™ Wideland camo or RealtreeHillside camo, both with matching Cerakote barrel finishes
The ACCURA® MR-X is our shorter-barreled ACCURA® muzzleloader (the MR stands for “Mountain Rifle”) and features a 26” Bergara Barrel in either bare stainless steel or Nitride® treated stainless steel. The MR-X is designed for hunters seeking a rifle that is both light to carry in the mountains and easy to maneuver in tight situations - like thickets or tree stands - yet still capable of reaching on out there when necessary. The ACCURA® MR-X is available in Veil® Alpine™ or Realtree® Rockslide™ camos with matching Cerekote® barrel finishes, or a basic black stock with stainless steel.
So far, CVA has been the only muzzleloading manufacturer to announce any major lineup changes, and they've done it twice. With interest in precision shooting sports growing, it's nice to see CVA including muzzleloading enthusiasts in the craze by introducing these new Accura muzzleloaders.
I hope to see the new Accura muzzleloaders in retail around the same time as the new Paramount HTR, by late spring or early summer. We will be doing our best to get a hold of these new muzzleloaders and testing them at the Walter Cline Range.

I also called to see if CVA offered 1:22 twist barrels for their Accura line (which I purchased last year). The person I spoke with seemed blown away with the question. When I asked who many people had requested faster twist rates in their CVA Accura rifles, he told me that in 2-1/2 years, I was the first. I find that extremely hard to believe. At any rate, most modern day hunters are looking to be able to extend their shooting distances -- and higher BC projectiles are the future (imo). I find it astonishing that 1:22 isn't the norm in ALL of CVA's muzzleloader lineup (vs 1:28) -- and you shouldn't have to move up to a Paramount rifle to get that twist rate. Take this as market feedback.

Thank You! This answered exactly what I was thinking about and found nothing on it until this.. I am shopping (or preparing) to replace my Kodiak .45 CVA and looking at the Accura MR-X in .45 Cal I have emailed CVA asking if the "Patriot Brown" Cerakote, available on the LR-X, will also be made available on the MR-X as well as "Sniper Gray". No answer yet. I hunt the woods of Florida mostly. (Our Long Range shooting is 100 - 150 yards, LOL) Thus the MR instead of the LR.

I bought the MRX it seems to be about the same as my Apex but without the under the barrel ram rod. I love them both. Both are very accurate.

I think I like the steps ANY manufacturer makes these days, to bring forth muzzleloader technology to the masses but realistically speaking, I've been shooting my TC Encore Pro Hunter with 28" Endeavor barrel and see no reason to change. My gun IS a true muzzleloader and I hunt in areas that, fortunately, I never need to push past 200 yards. Great video and I recently extended my NMLRA membership for another 3 years. Hopefully we'll all be getting back to Friendship soon. ✌

Where is the loading / cleaning rod? I understand there is a collapsible rod. It would be nice to see it. If it's on the CVA site, I missed it!

Bought the 50 cal LRX with the Williams sights (Colorado). While the 45cal isn't legal for Elk in Colorado, I would have preferred it since I mostly use it for Pronghorn and deer.

please explain why a gun with a four inch longer barrel is only one inch longer than its mountain bred cousin? How much additional range should I expect from the LR-x vs the MR-x. I am an axis hunter in an open environment but sometimes encounter brush.

Because of the distance it gives it at least 50 more yards distance this matters how many grains that you put in your barrel and what size of Suzie ball that you're using

i've decided on an mr-x for my first muzzleloader, but when will they be available? making the store unavailable late summer right before hunting season is a terrible business decision. if they're not out soon i'll be forced to go with another brand.

You see so little velocity gain from a 26" to a 30" barrel. Less that 100fps is common if using BH209. More like 18fps per inch in that comparison. Numerous inline Hunter matches at Friendship have been won with 27" 45 1-20 barreled rifles and BH209. Sadly, CVA did not compete at the last match with either a Paramount or Accura. Rules were even changed to allow them to use a brake and the loads over 120gr by volume.

I have the accura v2 lr .45 I use the ELR bullets. It's nice looking feels nice ...but the ELR bullets designed for these guns don't fill the bore take the plastic off the bottom and the bullet will fall straight down the bore to the breach plug then if you point it down the bullet will slide right out and onto the ground now I know that you don't take the plastic off I did that just to see how well the bullet itself fit the bore. It doesn't. Don't know if that matters. I would think so but I'm not a pro. If you use these bullets you will need the special ELR loading tip or you'll rip the plastic point off the bullet when you pull the rod back out. My berral has marks on it at the tip like something crushed the nitride treatment or stained it hard to tell since it doesn't come off when cleaned 🤔 there's rust on the twist in the bore but only on the tip where the bullet won't touch anyway the tip of the berral is flaired or whatever for easy loading I don't like that I'd rather have that last half inch of twist no matter how pointless it might be. I've read complaints about the nitride coming off inside the bore like it's a coating of paint witch makes me think the bores slightly bigger with that coating gone. The ram rod rings are starting to rust 😕 . Guns a couple months old. You gotta be rough with it when you close the break action or the hammer won't set. The sling studs are plastic so probably shouldnt or can't mount a bipod. Tons of blow by around the primer fire a couple shots and you'll have residue on the plugs backside and the firing pin tho I think that's normal for muzzleloaders .seems like alot tho. Slight defect on the camo up by the barrel to. Kinda felt like I got a used gun. Really has that vibe.

How does someone add 4 inches of barrel length to an otherwise identical rifle and only gain 1 inch of overall length. And I'm pretty certain the stated weights are WRONG.

If Bergara are the most accurate ML barrels in the world how come not a single CVA has won a single national NMLRA inline event ever? They have never even placed in the top 5 that i can find. Knight rifles have won numerous times with Green Mountain barrels. CVA has been using Bergara barrels in the Accura line since about 2008 or 2009. So that is nothing new. They have offered 30" LR versions for several years....Again nothing new that will help them compete to actually earn the title of "most accurate" that i see tossed around so often. The MR-X is a neat concept but good luck swabbing with a collapsible ram rod. Its for loading ONLY.

I have been watching a lot of accuracy videos and honestly nobody has 100% won me over to buy a cva. What everybody says is a great pattern sucks considering they are using scopes and the bullet holes should be touching or almost touching each other at 100 yards. I've been disappointed

You expect clover leaf groups to be the norm with a muzzleloader ? Most centerfire guys can't consistently produce groups like that. You aren't going to see that all the time out of most production rifles , much less a production muzzleloader. You need to go custom built if you want that level of accuracy

I agree to a point. I do think they are getting to far from a true muzzleloader. In my case I started with a cva optima because that’s what was around here and available to a beginner. Now I hunt with a flintlock. Over time trying to get better and learn more about it I found the nmlra and discovered I live 20 minutes from friendship,IN and thanks to the help and guidance of those guys I moved on and now prefer my traditional muzzleloaders. The biggest problem I have seen is people being so against new inline muzzleloaders and being aggressive with new people and instead of being open and helpful they push people away.
