We catch up with Tony Smotherman from CVA and get the scoop on the new CVA Paramount Pro. The new Paramount Pro advances on CVA’s Paramount line hoping to bring advanced precision to modern muzzleloader hunters. Available in .50 and .45 caliber to appease big game rules of Colorado and Idaho, the Paramount Pro is also available with a scoped and open sight option to pass regulations in western states.
How much does the new CVA Paramount Pro Cost?
From the literature we picked up at the SHOT Show, actual retail price for the Paramount Pro is $1667.95, not a cheap rifle by any means, but CVA backed up this cost that a comparable custom muzzleloader runs between $1,000 and $1800+.
What is the range for the CVA Paramount Pro?
According to CVA, the Paramount Pro is sub-minute of angle at 400 yards direct from the factory. CVA is certainly going after the misconception that muzzleloaders, but modern and traditional are only good out to 100 yards with the new Paramount Pro.
What kind of primer does the CVA Paramount Pro Use?
In line with CVA’s other long-range muzzleloaders, they are using a large rifle primer as the ignition source.
What kind of bullet does the CVA Paramount Pro Use?
The CVA Paramount Pro uses a 280-grain power belt bullet, shooting it at 2400 feet per second.
How much powder does the Paramount Pro Use?
The powder charge of the Paramounts is 150 grains of Blackhorn 209 by volume, which is 105 by weight.
What’s the deal with that muzzle brake?
This is the first time CVA has included threaded barrels muzzle breaks in their rifles. With the 150 grains of powder, you can expect some recoil, but CVA claims the muzzle brake reduces recoil by 50%.

Yeah way overshot it, if you want this fps and distance for $800 the remington USS 700 will do it without the free floating barrel

@@nationalmuzzleloadingrifle8871 can y'all do a field test of this against the remington 700 ultimate and knights as both are almost half the price and both reach the same FPS and use rifle primers? Would love to see if the extra $600 get better accuracy

275 grain power belt aero 130 grain blackhorn powder cci magnum primers is what i shoot through my 45 cal Optima elite with a 29"barrel 1in 28 twist with nikon 3x9 inline xr. Tac driver at 200 yards but capable of a lot more but northern Minnesota don't need anymore. Never let me down know matter what the weather. A lot cheaper if you can find one

So stupid you need to go through an FFL to get a single shot .22 that shoots 50 yards but you can buy this beauty that shoots 400 yards. Gun laws are so pointless.

Would love it but can use more than 1x scopes on a muzzleloader for hunting in my state so this and the regular paramount are pointless.

150gr by volume does not weigh 105gr, check it out! If you weigh out 105gr of blackhorn and put it in a tube that measures black powder by volume you get 120gr by volume. I’ll wait go ahead and do it! Oh but wait there’s more, if you buy the blackhorn 209 tubes I think it does?🤨 I’ve been shooting blackhorn 209 for a long time and in my old tc bone collector triumph I’ve been shooting the max charge of 120gr by volume! 120gr by volume out of a normal black powder measuring tube. (120gr by volume was equivalent to a 150gr by volume charge of pyrodex)Scoped it, factory breech plug, shot shell primer, started with 120gr by vol. and worked down to 90 got best groups, can put em all in an 6” circle at 400 yards. I was shooting this for some years. Not against cva, not for tc. I bought the paramount pro in a .40 cal. 1800$! I love it but the stuff just isn’t adding up. I loaded 150 by volume in a normal powder by volume tube it weighs somewhere in the range if 133gr. My argument is that I paid 1800$ for a muzzleloader that’s supposed to shoot 140gr-150gr by volume, but the fact of the matter is it’s not a magnum charge, it’s the 120 gr by volume I can shoot out of any in-line muzzleloader😮‍💨. Can anybody tell me if I’m mistaken, I love my paramount and all its features but I hate getting filled with b.s.! If not I guess I over paid for a better than average in-line muzzleloader. The max charge is a huge sales pitch. I would not have spent the money I did if I’d would’ve known. I probably would’ve bought the break open long range for 650$. For you can get that in a free floating barrel and longer, bet can shoot almost the same. 🤔

Blackhorn 209 powder?? That’s an extinct powder. Can’t find a bottle or 5# Keg anyplace in the US. Found 3 bottles in Canada, but they wouldn’t ship to the US.😕
