I wasn't watching wwe during Shelton's prime because I was too young and my parents felt it was overtly violent-- I have to ask though, is it true that his mic skills were horrendous and that's why he never broke the glass ceiling? Bc that's what I was told, and if that is the case then why didn't they put him with someone like Paul Heyman or MVP way sooner?
@JustinCredible245215 күн бұрын
@@TheJpiscool he was very mid on the mic. I never understood why they never put a manager type figure with him either. The dude is an amazing wrestler but unfortunately you have to be decent on the mic too in order to truly get over.
@TheJpiscool15 күн бұрын
@@JustinCredible2452 But to be fair, talent like Brock Lesnar and early Roman Reigns prove that wrong. Roman is great now don't get me wrong, but he was greener than algae when he first got the top spot, and later he got put with Heyman and that's what REALLY got him over. I feel like Shelton could have easily been wwe champ with a good manager. Easily.
@JustinCredible245215 күн бұрын

Talent for days and the powers that be seldom let him climb past the midcard but the true fans know Shelton is a real one.

What's interesting is that Shelton did become a gold standard in another way: before you had Kofi Kingston and his yearly Royal Rumble stunts to avoid elimination, you had Shelton Benjamin preforming *never before seen moves and stunts in the Money in the Bank ladder matches. Shelton Benjamin pioneered moves so unique to the match, that they became standard features in WWE video games for many years afterward. This distinction alone I feel is a clincher for Shelton Benjamin as a future inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame. The man helped pioneer both a match that would become not only a yearly match at Wrestlemania (and then go on to become its own Pay-per-view), but also create a move/skill set for the company's gaming franchise. *never before seen...the WWE at least, I don't know about elsewhere, but I'd like to think Benjamin was the first, the originator.

A few years later doing something like dying your hair on the fly wouldn’t be seen as a risk to advance your career, but a risk that would piss off management for changing your likeness (ie, WWE’s copyright) without their permission. Even when Shelton did this he might have just got lucky that it didn’t kill his career in WWE.

Which is dumb because how can a superstar stand out if creative is just pulling bs or not coming up with something.
@tdylan15 күн бұрын
@@2muchReality7ven It's the way people in power justify not giving opportunities. Creative had nothing for Shelton even though it's their job to have something for everyone. They dismiss it saying "it's up to you to grab the brass ring. You can't sit around waiting for creative to create something for you. Talent takes initiative and gets themselves over i.e. Zach Ryder, and then get punished because "how dare you try to create something from nothing." I often read complaints that Shelton wasn't good on the mic. That's why you give him a mouthpiece. Or give him more time to practice so that he gets better.
@2muchReality7ven15 күн бұрын
@tdylan Exactly. You try to tell folks this but they only regurgitate what they here only see face value. Instead, you let him talk once every blue moon and have him lose a substantial amount of matches, even as U.S champion. If WWE wanted to try, they would have tried.

If he gets injured doing them, you still have your main event guys. I think that in part he was a victim of being too good, so they kept him where he was.
