CWA (Memphis) Championship Wrestling-January 7, 1989

By popular demand, I'm back with more Championship Wrestling action! This is the 60 min. Evansville, IN taped version that aired one week after the 90 min. show aired live in Memphis. The show starts with a few words from Bill Superstar Dundee and the presentation of the Unified World Heavyweight Championship belt from Randy Hales to Jerry The King Lawler.
The first match is Scott Steiner (aka Big Poppa Pump) vs. Big Yogi (with Boss Winters), followed by a Phil Hickerson (with Downtown Bruno) interview where he explains his transformation into PY Chu Hi.

Thanks again Trader Jack. You're bringing back those good Memphis Wrastlin' memories. This was just before Verne got stupid on the AWA-USWA agreement.

William Stone Thanks, I was just going on what Jerry said was going on that Sat morning.he said they were sending the AWA belt back to Vern & Lawler was keeping the "Unified" belt.

At the end of the show---a "Tornado Watch" in the Ohio River valley? In early January? Wow, that kinda early in the season for you folks!

With the exception of the Southern Heavyweight Title (also the CWA title) and the Unified World Championship title, I wasn't a fan of the championship belts. I think they were way outdated for that time.

"Boss Winters was always managing losers and he's the only manager I know of that has never had winners under a wrestlers management and all of the wrestlers he has managed were black Rough & Ready and Big Yogi........ Winters also managed in the NWA Central States region for awhile but had some minor success there in the early 80's and who he managed was mainly a wrestler named Earthquake Ferris who stood 6'5" tall & weighed 500 lbs. & the tag team the Masked Thunderfoots but eventually lost a loser leave town/area match when the Thunderfoots lost a loser leaves/area town match as well."🌐🌍🌎🌏🌐..

Yeah, Boss' wrestlers always had tough luck. I always got a kick out of watching him with Rough and Ready. They are my all time favorite jobber tag team.

Jay, You'll have to check out my 1988 show postings to see if they included a clip of it on one of the Evansville broadcasts. Right now I don't recall if that is on one of them or not.

TraderJack641 Ok thanks I remember Foley talking about it in his book.. If Bruno lost he had to wear a diaper, and if Sylvia lost she had to wear lingerie.. Guess who lost? LOL

I've never owned the full Memphis versions, and they weren't available when I posted these. I'm glad some folks have posted the Memphis shows more recently though, as those are the ones I watched back then.
