Cyberpunk 2077 - Local RT Shadows Comparison
Settings maxed out. Scenes in varying DLSS settings in 1440p.
Even with real-time ray tracing still being in its infancy, I believe RT will become more important with current and coming generation hardware, so I created this channel with the intention of covering ray-traced games. There are plenty of channels doing mainly performance comparisons, my intention is to focus on the visual aspect and make the differences more obvious to viewers through my videos.
If you want to see more on ray-traced games in the future, subscribe ! 🔔

This finally visually connects the ingame assets together. I was dissappointed when I saw the gameplay with graphics supposedly cranked to the max, because nothing seemed to be touching the actual floor!! I couldn't believe it. Now this RT shadow integration finally blends all together nicely. Thank you for a very good comparison

Amazing work as always man. I always come to see your vids when RT updates roll out just to see if certain RT settings are worth pushing on my 3080 TI. And the local shadows in 1.5 were FULLY worth the slight performance hit for me compared to just sun/moon shadows.

With all RT settings cranked up, the game definitely makes even a 3080 sweat and struggle maintaining 60fps, with DLSS that is. Consider running Ultra instead of Psycho RT setting, and see if the local shadows are worth it to you during normal gameplay

Hey, I've got a question. I also have an RTX 3080 and was trying to play this game at 4K DLSS Performance mode with raytracing enabled. But the game is behaving like it has a memory leak. I can get butter smooth framerates (okay, normally 40+ easily), but if I go to the inventory or map or move too quickly, my FPS will tank. But it doesn't happen if I set Texture Quality to Low, which points to it being a VRAM issue. But surely 10GB is enough VRAM... I really think this update has introduced a bug with memory allocation. A leak or... something?
@brendontaylor7545
@brendontaylor7545 2 жыл бұрын
Have you had a similar experience? I'm talking framerates below 20, which is absurd. But changing texture quality fixes it. And those framerate issues are random-ish. Sometimes an area will completely tank my framerate, and sometimes it won't. It is weird.
@RayTracingRevolution
@RayTracingRevolution 2 жыл бұрын
@@brendontaylor7545 I play in 1440p and I haven't had such issues, it's usually 50-60 fps with DLSS depending on the area, with drops at worst being 40-45. It does kind of sound like a VRAM issue if lower res textures bring it back to normal.

With my 2060 I'm not even bothering to enable RT effects. But I did found out that using 1620P DLDSR and DLSS Balanced you get a much more crisp image on a 1080P monitor with around 60 average framerate (perfect for things like G-Sync) than just native 1080P. Since that revelation, I decided to not bother using RT at all anymore until I have upgraded to the new gen that will be announced later this year or next year. Edit: but I do love that the devs keep adding things, including new ways to use RT! :D

I just have an issue when people try to educate when they do not know the topic well and/or have a clear bias against a new tech for a reason I find unjustified or invalid (in this case, raytracing)

@wrong1189
@wrong1189 2 жыл бұрын
You're bottlenecked in the same way I am with my 3950x paired with a 3080 TI. Zen 2 simply doesn't have the IPC performance. Even though CP77 utilizes up to 12 threads and that helps, Zen 2 and similar single core performance CPU's will make GPU utilization go down when tons of NPC's etc are on screen if you are using DLSS or playing at any resolution lower than 1440p maxed settings. Some games I personally play, going to a 5800x even will yield a 50fps increase in bottlenecked areas. CP77 isn't AS bad since it uses so many threads but dipping down to the high 40's and low 50's is still annoying when sitting at 80% GPU load lol.

@wrong1189
@wrong1189 2 жыл бұрын
For the consoles, it was either RT shadows or nothing. RNDA2 GPU's already have extremely poor RT performance. Go look at RT benchmarks using the strongest RDNA2 GPU, the 6900 XT. And RT reflections and Lighting would have caused the framerate to plummet much harder. RDNA3 GPU's will have much better RT performance but the consoles for now simply can't do RT well which is why devs opt for shadows. At 1440p Quality DLSS, my 3080 TI manages 60-70fps with everything maxed out including all forms of RT. So expecting more out of the consoles is kind of a stretch.
