That ending is the canon ending in my eyes especially if you manage to make V and Johnny become friends. It just doesn't make sense for V to take back control of his body knowing he'll die and take Johnny with him in six months. It's much more tragic if he lets Johnny have his body. Johnny gets a second chance at life and do things differently, it's not a happy ending, but it's the happiest ending either character will get. I took that quote as him saying ''the life I lead from this day forward is for V''.

I genuinely thought that every time I saw Johnny I'd think "haha funny Keanu man haha", but I actually didn't. He was his own separate character and not once did I really consider the fact that it was Keanu Reeves. Sure, it crossed my mind but I didn't _consider_ him as just Keanu Reeves.

It's pure Keanu Reeves, it's not only his character. The way he acts is just... dunno. You can feel the emotions, everything. He was the best actor for this role, I think he himself sympathizes with Johnny the same way he sympathizes with John Wick. Keanu Reeves is helluva man, not some "haha funny Keanu man haha", I really appreciate him.

"Johnny Silverhand, relentless rocker boy who never gives up!" "V. First among suckers." That was a really well-executed lighthearted moment for such a heavy scene. It's a tough emotion to describe. Great game.
@joeldelgado1376
@joeldelgado1376 Жыл бұрын
I agree, it was a moment to softly cope with the existentialism. Johnny knowing the results of his life amounted to nothing yet at the beginning he was so adamant to tell you, "Johnny Silverhand died a fucking legend," meant something to him. He strongly believed he mattered. All that egotistical, uptune, and pretending to know more than he actually didn't. A front that broke apart in that one scene. The lighthearted moment was a feeling of comfort that he just needed a little to feel good even though he felt like crap.
@ChadVulpes
@ChadVulpes Жыл бұрын
@@joeldelgado1376 I think Johnny was joyful in that scene because he realized that not all is yet lost. Note that in order to hear this dialogue, V has to say that Johnny used V and can’t trust him at all. Then you have to say that you’ll give him the last second chance. As for why he was sad, he said it: he thought there would at least be a marker after him. But then, that doesn’t exclude what you said. Nice write up.

The guitar that comes in around the two minute mark really hits home, and the synth waves around 2:30. It makes you feel so alone, isolated. You almost sympathize with Johnny, you understand his difficulties even if they’re killing you, even if he’s killing you. You’re both approaching your end so you reflect in that light in the graveyard, a Night City Legend without a grave and a mercenary fighting to survive. This wasn’t what I signed up for, but I couldn’t be happier with what I got.

For me, the conversation at Silverhands' grave was the pinnacle of the game's story, atmosphere, character, and overall just my favorite scene. Johnny, up until this point, has been nothing but a pompous, arrogant, self-consumed rockerboy rebel, blinded by rage for corporations and himself, but by Chippin' In he's matured from an anarchist rockstar to a man keenly aware he lost everything well before his death, hoping to atone while unintentionally murdering the one friend he's ever had. We see man wanting to change, to seek redemption, and wanting companionship.

@@linuxtuxvolds5917 Cyberpunk is FULL of moral, political, religious, and social commentary. Not even Cyberpunk 2077, but the whole genre of "bladerunner-style" cyberpunk sci-fi. Johnny's "path to redemption" is fascinating in so many ways. The idea of a man having a chance to reconcile his own death and horrible failures, while not wanting to fall prey and "fuck this up" again in his second and last chance at having a life and a friend? That's some inspiring writing right there. The stories told in games can carry as much weight as a book or a movie and some would argue even moreso. It's not an "inferiority complex" to find meaning in a scene clearly designed to be slow, thoughtful and emotional.

The moment when the rockstar, the rebel, the legendary johnny Silverhand realized that his lifelong righteous fight for a meaning, for a change in the corporate world (be it by guitar or terrorism) amounted, in the end, to nearly nothing. Arasaka was right back where it was before the bomb, stronger than ever. The people more dependent on the system than ever before and most of his musical legacy as a rebel rockstar right among his few real friends: long dead or forgotten. An unmarked, nameless grave in the middle of nowhere.

The symbolism of the location in this scene is heartshattering for me. The oil is literally a result of the decomposition of millions of corpses, that lasted millions of years. This black sludge is like a void, where different dead creatures turn to drops of the one black ocean. The fact that Johnny doesn't even know where exactly his body is buried perfectly emphasizes this dissolving into death and nothingness. The exact opposite of words "Never Fade Away"

I knew it would be sad saying goodbye to Johnny, these 2 weeks were really rough but fun too. Johnny was a great character, what is also really great, he felt like a real human being, despite having Keanu's appearance. They nailed characters in this game, every one of them feels like a real person, and it was really really sad that V and Johnny couldnt be together no matter what you do. Connections like this define you even in real life, they affect your whole vision of what the life is.

depends on your point of view sure V dies and the city won but its how you die that matters do you die chained and shackled to a corporation that doesn't give 2 shits about you or do you die surrounded by friends and those that care about you? Or do you die doing something equally legendary sticking your middle finger out and telling the world YOU LIVED? Or do you die to save a comrade's life from cyberspace hell? Do you put it all to rest and leave the world behind? Sometimes its not the ending that matters. Sometimes its the journey that gets you there. From my own viewpoint V was a merc which have very short lifespans hence the name from the club the "afterlife" all legends have short ends and did something to earn it. As V i wasn't willing to risk the lives of those I cared about. Equally i wasn't willing to let johnny risk his own chooms lives instead of biting the bullet i went the way of a legend storming hell itself and walked away. As painful as endings go the journey to being a legend means sacrifice. In other versions of my previous playthroughs you can also go through it and realize that being a legend aint all that its cracked up to be and walk away still a legend but die surrounded by those who actually give a shit about you. The ambiguity is what makes it an interesting story. Tragedy is sadly a genre that isnt popular with people now everybody wants sunshine and daisies happy endings. Sometimes tragedies are what make you realize that sometimes you don't always win.

Played that part at night, realising how much Nightcity has taken from V and yet he thinks he could beat the system (maybe it was Johnny thoughts). When we are taking the pills it feels like we could leave reality leave Nightcity and we can, but for how long. Good message from the game that we can't always beat our demons, sometimes we have to run away from them so we can realeases ourselves... Maybe, don't know actually. Tripping my balls on acid while listen to this, soooo good :,)

I'm playing through the game for my second time. First time was after the initial big fix after launch. I largely relied on fast travel and skipping most dialogue to get through the game. But when PL came out I restarted and played a whole new way. I was blown away to see that you can COMPLETELY miss out on this incredible scene. What an incredible game. When the option "The Guy who saved my life" came up I kinda got emotional. That whole scene is perfection. I wish I could play this game forever and never reach the end of the experience.

Honestly listening to these tracks again and perusing clips on youtube, and talking to you guys in the comments is my therapy right now. After completing the game 1st time couple days ago (i reloaded to see a few endings) Ive been in a total malaise of melancholy ever since. Ive read about this phenomena called Post Game Depression that affects many people after they get to the end of a show, book or other medium that had a profound effect on them. Hanging around here in lockdown just discussing the game's events and emotions is what's getting me over it. I'm sure this time next week i'll be blowing up mechs or flying spaceships in another game and feeling great but right now, let's just [Lean on wall] and look out at Night City some more and remember.

This game still fucks me up when I think about it in depth, and I really haven't felt this way about any other game, not that I can think of. Jackie's death left me feeling weird for a couple weeks before I picked the game back up; and even though I got the nomad ending w/Panam romance, it _still_ left me feeling weird for another week. This game is like a 6/10 imho, why is this doing so many things to my mental health ;-;

I felt the exact same way. The realization that none of V’s choices can end up being just fine, happy. Something, someone’s gotta give in every ending. Its soul-crushing but also a beautiful story and I think it feels this way because it nailed all the themes it was going for, which were all pretty heavy. But yea I didn’t wanna say bye to johnny or the story, I wasn’t/am not ready for it to be over. Ready for these expansions next year hopefully though!!

Things that make you feel like this, are far and few between. But, alot of them have to do with death. I guess, its a bittersweet feeling? But both hit me with that depression

I don't know if it was supposed to happen but this kept playing after I left the fields and headed towards the lake as per Johnny's request. The soundtrack continuing to play as I drove in my new owned Porce 911 through the entire journey was a really deep experience. I felt down and deep ya know? Relaxed, heavy, humbled, in my thoughts, sad, blah blah. I wouldn't have felt that if this didn't continue to play in the background. Music is powerful when produced well.
