Yep. The music, the dialogue, the acting, it's all perfect. I fucking love this scene and wish it wasn't buried in a buggy video game that most people have abandoned. It damn near redeems a game full of flaws, just like it damn near redeems the soul of a man who had to die before he could feel remorse.

100%. It's the part that hit me the most I'd say. My Dad died in service, his body never made it home so during this game I kind of got immersed in Vs dialogue. What would I say?..love this. Johnny silverhand. A character, a friend. I served and when my son played this recently I laughed at him, and I was estranged from him. It was wrong. We shared a whisky, a few laughs, i never had his first beer with him. Wasnt good enough to be around at the time and his mom hated me. he's a mechanic now and thanks to this particular scene, it helped us bond albeit in a game. I'm not good at voicing feelings I'm old, a square but we laughed a lot and he opened up about being a lonely kid and i opened up about feeling unfit to be his Dad. I got to be a father for the first time and help him through a struggle. This one scene helped us both. I love my son, he's a good man a better man than I'd ever be. And one day I hope he tells his kids, my grandkids, that he's made it. I'll work everyday until my dying breath to set his world up. I love you son. One day you'll see this.

@@syrion_n2579 I got this ending sheerly by accident in my first run, i didn't speak to him that way because i still hated him, but because while we'd mended a lot of emotional wounds he still needed to know how badly he fucked up during both his first and second chances at life. He originally intended to usurp V's mind, kill them and move on. He constantly pressured us to make the choices he'd make and start fucking with your head if you didn't comply. While he evidently changed by the point of this conversation, it seemed to me his narcissism still had some part to play in the heart to heart, especially considering that this mission is also the prereq to the normal Rogue ending and he constantly pressures you during the ending to get Rogue to go along with his plans again. However if you check him on his previous behavior as the secret ending requirements show, that becomes far less appealing of an idea to him, putting his friends in danger AGAIN just to save V and stick it to Arasaka.

The end with Panam is symbolic for this, he can finally rest knowing that he did things right at the end, and he will be able to spend eternity with Alt. happy endings are fine and dandy but this game and genre is mostly tragedy and tragedies dont often have the happy endings or conclusions that can ever truly be resolved. As johnny did say happy endings for folks like us? wrong city wrong people. The real question should be how do you wanna be remembered after you die? alone forgotten and surrounded by enemies? or loved and appreciated cherishing your final moments with friends and family things that should matter to you. All of night city takes everything from you including your life. In the end the one thing you do have some semblance of control over is how your death plays out. David Martinez, Maine, Dorio, Rebecca, so many edgerunners die pointless tragic deaths. Don't forget johnny died HATED by his friends thats what makes this one truly tragic scene playout heartwrenching. Do you live in night city to become a legend or leave it behind to live for yourself? Die young with a big name or die forgotten with nothing to your name? its a tough decision and most of the time people don't like tragedies sadly though reality is more tragic then happy. Not everybody gets happy endings.

From what I can tell, from also buying the manual that I got from buying the hard copy (AKA the Disc), the man witnessed horrors from the wars that took between the 1990's and 2020's. The three Corpo Wars and watching the people having their livelihoods taken from them, what little they had, not to mention if you side with Johnny the majority of the game, you can find out he is also a veteran of one of the many wars that took place prior to the events of the game himself. This would explain his hatred for the Corpo people, the ones that are high up and not you (If you took the Corpo route), because he witnessed the simple lives of people ripped from them to create a monster of a city filled with corruption and lack of humanity. I'm sure it'd be enough to cause someone with a high emotional awareness like Johnny Silverhand, which is proven from how he fully understands that people didn't like him at all, to become enraged. This could explain his outlook for some of his music being an outlet, like "Chippin' In" that was used in the E3 trailer when we see Johnny Silverhand for the first time, being a heavy metal one. It must have been a trauma for him to watch everything being taken from the people around him, maybe even himself as a child or teenager, and now live in poverty or as Nomads. So it's my belief that Johnny Silverhand isn't a terrorist because he hates the Corpo's from a collective mindset, he hates the Corpo's because they took what little the people outside their viewpoint had and robbed them of all sorts of opportunities because they were focused on industrialization and forgetting that there are people beneath their shoe. He may have watched his family as a youth go out of business because of the new big people, went into poverty, and lost everything as a result. He joined in the wars against the Corpo's (full on guns against guns) but the wars didn't do well on his side of things. When he had nothing, he planned to bomb the tower the Corpo's valued the most and was punished for it.

Johnny is not only a veteran, he's also a deserter. There's one great bit of his lore in which his former label finds out he is a deserter when he's at the top of his game and is thinking of leaving the label and signing a new contract, so they threaten him with giving this knowledge to the public. Johnny gets on top of things and decides that if the public is gonna hear about who he truly was during the war, it should be from him, so he writes a song about the fucked up shit he saw during the war. From that song, his popularity got boosted even further, he broke with the label and formed the Silverhand Label

It just took him to die to realize of what he could have done different.

"Was he a monster?" Actually, yeah. He definitely was. We just get to have a window into him that nobody else does. Even if he wasn't always one, he did become one. Monsters, be what they may, can have feelings and regrets too. And we, as V, become a sort of estranged friend along the way. Night City was/is full of them, and Johnny doesn't get some special exception. Doesn't matter if you have conflicted emotions behind the scenes, your actions are your actions, and they define who you really are. "It just took him to die to realize of what he could have done different." lol. lmao even. Weird how the prospect of ceasing to exist entirely makes one re-evaluate the choices they made and what they could have done different. Was Johnny an interesting character? Sure. Was he a good guy? Nah. But thankfully video games can allow us an avenue into making a connection with these kinds of characters that grants a lot of entertainment and a sense of satisfaction with the experience... because we were the main character and not the hundreds of other ones that were used, abused, and couldn't find a way to reconcile with or overcome that. Just a thought for those who are easily impressionable and think Johnny Silverhand is the tits rather than tragic just because he was an edgy character in a video game you like.

I really hate that the secret ending is 110% locked behind you going off a bit on Johnny here. I get WHY you can do it, but it just seems so bizarre to me to make this the one and only way to unlock it. I feel like getting his relationship high enough, doing enough Johnny missions, should also unlock it as an option.

I found, and still find Johnny to be an abhorrent, disgusting, destructive asshole who did some truly horrible, unforgiveable things in the past... But I could not hate him. He wasn't wrong. The corpos were the true enemy. He had suffered under them for most his life, and he wanted to find a way to free everyone from them once and for all. And he didn't just talk about it, he actually did it. He shot Arasaka right in the heart. He didn't kill Arasaka, but it damn sure was the closest anyone else came. I vehemently disagree with his actions with every fiber of my being, but, in a way, I also respect him, admire him, even, for not compromising even in the face of death and Armageddon. And that is why I gave him V's body in the end. Of all people, he deserved one last second chance.
@GameBang666
@GameBang666 Жыл бұрын
I disagree, and so does Johnny. Johnny wants you to keep the body even if only for a year, he realized he fucked up both his first AND second chances at life, and to ask V to trade their for his (which he doesn't) does not sit well with him at all. His beliefs altered yours and yours altered his, while he still carries hatred for the corpos unto death, he also recognized that going along with Alt is a big middle finger to the corporates too, all guilt free.

@@GameBang666 I’m not OP but I felt like while he didn’t feel he deserved it, he was happy at the end of Temperance in that cutscene on the bus. I think he knows he doesn’t deserve another chance, but as Rogue hints at in her voicemail to him (if she survived and he gets the body), he’s finally changed as a person and having someone sacrifice himself for him to this extent makes him different in every way. He lives a quiet life with no fame, no luxury, no cigarettes and gives away his posessions to an abused boy with a dream. He becomes someone that maybe isn’t selfless but isn’t living for himself or ideals anymore (he even says in this ending how he realizes he doesn’t have to give a fuck about the corps etc or make it his mission). I felt a lot more satisfied seeing the real growth of his character there than I did in an ending where V lived, and knowing he was going to look the face in the mirror that gave him this chance everyday and truly become a better person, one who’s struggling but still actually smiles when he’s leaving the city. He seems kind of at peace in a weird way and like he is going to be someone new.
@GameBang666

@@galaxychar I understand the appeal of the temperance ending for someone who's friends with Johnny, but he'd already died. Alt is wrong when she says "you stand to lose nothing and he stands to gain everything". Not because Johnny wouldn't gain anything but because he'd already been given his chance in life and people usually only get the one, but V still stands to lose his life, his love, his friends and all the other things that make us human. Alt's viewpoint is flawed because she's spent over 5 decades as a ghost in the shell without the benefit of having genuine interactions with fleshy organisms like Johnny had with V. She sees us all as just data, and V says it themselves when referring to Maeko. "You can't trust someone who decides whether to keep you as a friend or bump you off as their enemy based on a decimal"(or something like that)
@galaxychar
@galaxychar Жыл бұрын
@@GameBang666 I think it depends a bit on how much credence you give to those last 6 months. If V is going to die anyway, no matter what, then they’ve already lost all of those things and will just be spending extra time with them. The choice reminded me of terminally ill patients who decide whether to spend extra time on extreneous treatments while dying in a slow and hard way, or making the choice to peacefully make their way out. In this case V basically decides to become a new form of life by joining Alt in what comes next instead of dragging their last bits of life out. I felt that even more when I played The Sun and saw Judy’s misery at being with my V while they were dying and even leaving her. There was something that felt cold and pointless about their life. It’s also worth noting that to me at least, V also died, they flatlined before the relic saved them and have multiple npcs like the delamain AI’s call them a dead person walking, just like Johnny is. I ended up seeing it as they’re both two living, conscious ressurected liveforms in one body and you have the decision whether one should have 6 extra months or if one gets to fully have a whole rest of their new life to live. Yes it was V’s life to begin with but when I was V making the choice I couldn’t really justify deciding to end his life when we’re both on borrowed time and he’d actually get to live it. It feels like - sorry, yes you’re alive and real just like me, but my six months of dying matter more than your possible entire lifetime. I think if I was in that position and respected Johnny I would feel very selfish during those last months knowing he could have a whole life instead. And there was something emotional to me about giving that to someone who felt they didn’t deserve to live and proving to them that they can become someone else, especially since in the clip above we hear Johnny felt like nobody ever cared about him or liked him in his life. Obviously everyone can feel how they want to but this discussion’s really interesting to me so I wanted to elaborate a bit more on how I saw it. I do get your pov and when Johnny is the one to make the choice I usually have him choose to let V live to make him do something selfless for the narrative, because you’re right in the sense that V actually has more in the world to live for even if it’s 6 months. And if you’re RPing that V is going to try and find a way to save themselves despite what Alt says will happen then I can buy that. But if not then him taking over the body makes sense to me overall I think.

god DAMN. I don't think there's a single more compassionate portrayal of a narcissist in any game I've played, Bungie's Marathon is the closest and barely stacks up. Johnny's an asshole. A loser. Forgotten after his death except by the people he wronged the most. Fucked up and hard, it literally took him being resurrected to realize just how awful he lived his life. His redemption is amazing, it's seen by one person and one person alone. Viktor sees Johnny's engram as a monster, going out of its way to ruin V's life. Rogue can't bring herself to sleep with him, Kerry worries Johnny's the one coming onto him, Alt's AI doesn't really seem to forgive him either. Misty's the only one other than V who treats what she knows about him with compassion.

I remember when I first played this game I hated the story. I hated Johnny, I hated the fact you were already dead clinging onto hope... I got the worst ending trying everything I could to Save myself. a long time passed but then I went back and decided to give it a final go. I realized if you played the way the devs wanted there was a pretty good story hidden within the game.. the second chance I gave the game and and I enjoyed it, somehow I didn't hate Johnny anymore, the worst part was... I understood him. "Most people who I thought were my friends couldn't even stand to be in the same room with me." Fuck... until you live those words you won't really understand it. one of my closest friends died. I watched my career go down in flames. my best friend of ten years tried to kill me. I've watched nearly everything I've ever cared about become dust and be destroyed or ruined... I think that when I do die, there won't be anything written on my grave, there's nothing left.

Gta V may have the best details, physics but man... no one will ever beat cyberpunk 2077 in it's story telling and character developpement The only game that was in it's level was red dead redemption 2 but even this one had many mistakes in it's story Like for exemple john had a daughter in the 1 But in the 2 there's no trace of her and her name was never mentionned
