This is a timelapse video showing a Cycad revoluta flush. The first flush in four years. Captured on film. Watch how the leaves/fronds emerge and develop.

Thanks for the reply! I have been watching alot of your vids recently and have picked up alot of good tips.i am also from and currently living in yorkshire and this summer i have bought a few palms.i hope i can keep them in good health through this summer and winter fingers crossed!!

thats a great timelapse really clear picture too. I have just ordered a new camera (sjcam sj4000) for a 1 year timelapse of the whole garden, looking forward to using it

mine seem to flush on alternate years, but cant complain as it is throwing a pup as well. i was advised to give it a quarter turn each day to avoid the new growth leaning toward the light. once mature it doesn't want to realign itself. mind you, i am in Cornwall so presumably warmer - although it hasn't felt like it this year.

Now I don't feel so bad. I bought 3 sagos this spring/summer and only one of them have flushed.

Hi Karen, turning the plant could permanently deform the leaves. Better to keep in a sunny spot and dont move the pot until the flush is complete.

+YorkshireKRIS actually the trick is to turn plant whilst leaves are forming. perhaps that wasn't clear in my previous comment. cycad is in sunny position. i agree that once formed leaves would distort under other conditions, you should have seen the state of it when i picked it up from a freecycler who had it indoors at the back of the room, practically growing sideways. all of that growth eventually taken off once it flushed - seems to do it mid july in cornwall.

Great channel! Im buying a sago tomorrow,how do they hold out in the winter months? They are being sold as house plants but i want to pot mine up and keep it outside.im a novice when it comes to palms ect so any advive would b great.

Thanks. If potted I would drag into an outhouse or garage for winter. They won't survive freezing through.

Generally speaking if you're going to try outdoors in the ground get one with a caudex/ trunk as big as a grapefruit or larger.

Hi Just wondering how long from stsrt to finish was the time laps. I nearly pulled 1 cycad out that had sat dormant for 2 years this month it has a mass of new leaves a huge flush coming out. I have 8 cycads ive dug up from previous owners and planted at my house. They range from 600mm tall to 2200mm tall and one is rounder than my arms will go around. Guy said its like 50 years old. Got them all for free other than the largest one that i payed 50 AU dollars for. They are a majestic plant.
