Cycle Commute 2014 vs 2022 | They were both Mondays

2 жыл бұрынIn 2014 I used a GoPro Hero 3 to film my ride to work, from a helmet mounted camera. It was ok, nothing thrilling, and I did nothing with the footage.
Come 2022 and my brother-in-law encouraged me to use or at least post the footage. So I strapped the same GoPro 3 on to the same helmet and rode a different bike the same route. To see what had changed (spoiler: not that much...)
So here is the comparison video of the two rides, with a few of the changes pointed out on the film and some ambient music alongside the wildtrack.

Brilliant! I was about the same speed, strangely enjoy. 8 years older, less fit but just as fast! Go figure.

Brilliant film/s. As a driver I’m like “not another road closed”. As a cyclist I’m like” that looks safer”.

With luck, it is listed - great clock at the top. I doubt it'll ever be a pub again, certainly not of the variety it was...

That was very compelling - I found myself trying to spot the same parked cars in the same place for some reason! Looks a lot better now cycle path wise. I last cycled some of those roads in 2009 - and 2014 looks how I remember it, whereas 2022 looks like a load of new cycleways. I also enjoyed trying to spot which shops were still the same - I noticed that some that had changed, kept the same colour scheme as the old shop to try and trick me....

Good attention to detail! I'm not sure this is so interesting to anyone other than those who ride or have ridden that route. I was surprised that things haven't changed more along the route.

There's at least one car in the same spot. Near the start, on Copeland Road I think!

@@petesmith6417 Oh excellent work! Yes, I spot it. Having checked on the high res version, it is the same registration. That is what I call consistent parking.

thanks for posting this. really insightful. i cycle on a lot of those roads, it's much safer now.

I think it is, I agree. Some of the bits down Lea Bridge Road (say, near the Potters House) look really ropey. I like the cycle path, but you have to watch for people and cars coming across it.
