Schon Goethe, Dürer und Kaiserin Sissi reisten ihrer Zeit auf der Via Claudia Augusta, um die mediterranen Vorzüge des Südens zu genießen. Heute kannst du diese kulturreiche Strecke mit dem Fahrrad befahren und - unseren Vorfahren gleich - auf Tuchfühlung mit Land und Leuten gehen. Vom ungeschliffenen Vinschgau gesäumt von Gletschern, Burgen und Schlössern durch weitläufiges Obst- und Weinanbaugebiet in den lieblicheren Teil Südtirols. In Meran angekommen, flanierst du auf den mit Palmen gesäumten Promenaden. Weiter dann in Bozen tauchst du beim Aperitif auf dem Waltherplatz in die heitere Lebensart der Stadt ein. In Salurn an der Grenze zum Trentino schließlich erahnst du, wie die Bewohner der Haderburg über die Salurner Klause wachten - der historischen Kulturgrenze zwischen Nord und Süd.

Viaggerai dalla regione della Val Venosta che si mostra nella sua originarietà, costellata di ghiacciai e castelli, attraverso estesi frutteti e vigneti, fino alla parte più affascinante dell’Alto Adige. Arrivati a Merano, passeggerai all’ombra delle palme. Più avanti, a Bolzano, potrai immergerti nel vivace stile di vita della città sorseggiando un peritivo in piazza Walther. Infine, a Salorno, al confine con il Trentino, potrai vedere come gli abitanti di Castel Haderburg vegliavano sulla Chiusa di Salorno, storico confine culturale tra nord es sud.

Nowadays, the cycling trail offers you another way to experience the unspoilt Vinschgau valley first-hand. Passing fruit orchards and vineyards, old castles, and country manors, the historic route leads beneath the glacier into South Tyrol’s cultural heartland. In Meran/Merano, stroll along the riverside promenade under the palms, though its arcades in the old town centre, or visit the renowned thermal baths. In nearby Bolzano/Bozen, the cosmopolitan atmosphere in the provincial capital is best enjoyed over an aperitif in one of the upmarket cafes in Waltherplatz square. Further south in Salurn/Salorno near Trentino, learn how Haderburg Castle once guarded the Salurner Klause hermitage on the cultural fault line demarcating north and south.
