I never put my phone on my handle bars. I have a dedicated GPS. Why? If you wreck and get really hurt you have no access to the phone. Keep the phone in your jacket!

Amen cycle cruiser. A lot of people I know who told me “motorcycles are dangerous I used to ride” I ask what happened, always “laid her down & didn’t have gear on” 💀. Well..that kinda says it all lol. At the same time, gear isn’t a guarantee out of a fffffffuuuuuuuccccc*** uppp dayyyyy.

I'm new to riding. In Canada we get M1, M2, then full M (weird naming system but yeah). I'm on my M2 since last summer, just got my first bike last month a used 2023 Yamaha MT-07. I'm an ATGATT kind of guy. All the gear, all the time. I just try to make my gear look relatively cool even with the cheap stuff I've bought so far. I also dress WHITE because of summer heat and better visibility without going neon yellow/green. I don't get why everyone wears or wants black. It is insane. It creates so much heat in the sun. I bought a white mesh jacket, light faded blue kevlar jeans, white helmet. I will get a airbag vest and probably plasti-dip it white. I get up to 35KM and the breeze is great even on a heat wave day. I think squids are crazy considering the extra risks involved in riding bikes vs cars. Even slow fall overs can rip off so much skin.

I am one of the anti overpriced and semi-useful airbag vest riders. Remember, we're NOT all the same. I'm an older rider with a very tight budget. I only have 10 or 15 years left on my healthspan, and that almost $800 on a vest I can put to much better use. I've Lived grand adventures of 2 or 3 average men in my 70 years. So what if I expire in a crash now?

The dumbest thing another rider ever told me is "You need to ditch that crap Japanese R6, you need to get a Ducati." Yes this was said by a Ducatista at a bikes and coffee. Funny bit was his crap Panigale wouldn't start when he went to leave. I was dying 😂😂😂😂😂 at him.

Loud pipes do save lives I have seen it myself, the air bag vest will not help in accidents it doesn’t protect your arms or legs. A good Kevlar vest will protect more then an air bag. I’ve been riding 37 years been in 5 accidents and still riding!

Regarding gear. Every veteran rider I've talked to has told me to get the best gear I can get. Make the cosmetics stuff the last things you spend on.

The folks who say an airbag vest is too $$$$$ , will buy cigarettes, tattoos and booze every day.

I have a bumper sticker that says: "loud pipes save lives." I also have a pair of truck nutz and those girlie mudflaps that the ladies instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano.

Tapping your high beams three or four times will do way more to catch the attention of a vehicle turning in front of you than anything else.

I got a Helite 2 like half a year, but I only use it when I get on the bigger bike. Tiny one, just armor, jackets and pants.

Kinda reminds me of the people who think you are gonna get eaten by a shark if ya go in the ocean. I'm a lifelong surfer. I always ask, are you really that lucky? People find out I ride motorcycles, and it's automatic. You are going to die. I just shake my head and let them know I would rather be dead than not enjoy the things I like to do. I get it. I was not wearing gear when I had a pretty bad wreck, and I will NEVER demonize the bike or how dangerous they are. It was my fault for every single second of the agony I had.

Airbag vests all the way. Good enough for Moto gp.....good enough for the street. Basically a new and worthwhile advancement, same as the helmet was.

Loud pipes save lives is for the parking lot!! When u pull in u make some noise so people don't just throw their car in reverse and backup without looking.

Not to be one of those guys but that is an expensive price. I just got ran off the highway in October of last year. Broke five ribs and messed up my knee. If I could afford one of the vest's I would definitely use it. I took out an exit sign with my chest and it ripped my motorcycle boots off and my helmet. Just went back to work this last week for the first time since October of last year. I lived to tell about it. Definitely didn't scare me off but it totaled my new bike and can't afford another one right now.

I noticed with loud exhaust people do notice me more. Less likely to get doored. But yeah you still need to ride defensively. I would avoid riding loud exhaust at night where can attract criminals and disturb sleeping people.

Spent almost $2k on gear, chump change for my safety. Blows my mind when I see people riding like assholes with nothing but a t Shirt and sun glasses.

I'll be the first to 100% say it. I wear shorts and a shirt every time I ride. It's a stupid choice. I should be safer. I want to be safer but I know the first and I want to be comfortable. I'm building up my gear and learning how to find a comfort and usability level. The first thing I wish I'd have done before buying a bike is saving for a year, trying out gear and riding other people's bikes so I could start out with everything. I also really wish that we could end no helmet states. I mean shit If you wanna wear a helmet that does barely anything for you you could at least get a half shell.

OK, Hoss. You talked about the importance of good gear and safety while riding. Looks like you are riding a black bike with black jacket and pants, except for the airbag vest. You ought to go all Hi-Viz. At least wear a Hi-Viz helmet. Cops and highway troopers on bikes usually wear a white helmet. That is because a rider's head is the first thing seen by others on the road. Tests have shown that riders with the most noticeable helmet colors are the safest. We visually process what we are looking at from left to right and top to bottom.

You have a valid point about adventure bikes but the main thing is you DONT take those damn bike on trails and that's most riders mistake they are not designed for single track

As far as the adv segment goes, youre entitled to your opinion, but to say others are ignorant because they take adv bikes in the woods... I know of a lot of adv guys who ride in the woods, competently on larger machines. Additionally, the trails/terrian you've ridden on your dual sport (specifically your wr250r), i would eat up on my 450lb Aprilia Tuareg. Low difficulty for sure. However! I do agree that adventure bikes do not make good dual sports. They're not even dual sports .. but yeah motorcycle community can be really stupid. Really damn dumb.

I have a ninja 300 and do mainly backroads, hills country roads and twisties and light city riding. I gear up in the winter, but at 90 plus in the summer, I'm in shorts and tshirt. I do wear proper 3 1/4 shoes, shorty gloves and always a helmet, but i just can't do all that hot ass gear in the summer. My body, my choice.😎🏍

The term “loud exhaust saves lives” was developed by motorcyclist back in the day, when people/pedestrians/Karen’s were trying to fight back against loud exhaust, and calling it unnecessary noise pollution, and trying to get it outlawed, like loud music is in some cities.. It was just our way of justifying having loud exhaust.

The only time drivers can hear you is when parallel to them or close from behind almost to blind spot that because your exhaust sound follows you it doesn’t precede you and that’s why loud pipes don’t save lives
