“At this point it’s in the hands of the gods. We can’t do any more preparation. So… it’s over to them. Let’s get on with it.”
This 25 minute film chronicles the 2019 Tour d'Afrique and the cycling participants that crossed Africa from Cairo to Cape Town. Broken into eight parts, the film tells the story of ordinary people stepping out of their comfort zones, setting aside their preconceptions, and challenging themselves like they've never done before.
They start their grand voyage from the Great Pyramids at Giza, down the Red Sea and alongside the Nile River. Entering Sudan, they traverse the desolate Nubian Desert to Khartoum. They soon reach the biblical Ethiopian Highlands, before tackling the infamous Blue Nile Gorge - possibly the toughest day of the whole tour. They continue south through the arid landscapes of southern Ethiopia and northern Kenya before crossing the equator in the shadow of Mt Kenya en route to Nairobi.
More details of the annual Tour d’Afrique can be found here: tdaglobalcycling.com/tour-daf...
Riders enjoy a safari break in Tanzania, visiting the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater, then tackle mud roads in the country's verdant isolated interior. After a thrilling descent passed tea and avocado plantations, Lake Malawi welcomes the cyclists to the 'Warm Heart of Africa'. Zambia's Great Eastern Road features rolling hills and small villages on long hot days en route to Mosi-oa-Tunya, "The Smoke that Thunders". Cyclists then cross the Zambezi River and are wowed by the sight of elephants along Botswana's flat highways skirting the edge of the Kalahari Desert.
In Namibia, riders spin on gravel roads through the scenic Namib Desert, and visit the incredible dunes at Sossusvlei, before entering South Africa en route to the finish line in Cape Town.

I had the honor to be one of the first team who works with TDA in Egypt through Emeco Travel in 2003 "tour d'afrique" for three years, what a great experience I have got. I was taking care of the transportation stages through the deferent cities of Egypt, starting from Giza pyramids until Abo simbel, Aswan.

I bought an Electra Townie electric assist bicycle in March 2022 as an alternative means of transportation. I don't always use the electric assist function, but I am glad it is there when I want it. My alternate is now my main. I only drive my truck if my wife and I have to go somewhere together or if the weather is not favorable. I also lost 36 pounds in four months.

@tdacycling
@tdacycling 2 жыл бұрын
The vast majority of people we meet are welcoming and curious. Our biggest fears around safety are usually car traffic. Also while travelling with a group and support team, people who are intimidated can feel reassured that there is a back up system in place in case of emergency.

we normally avoid major roadways if there is an alternative. Even if its unpaved or more hilly we prefer to choose the safer routes away from faster moving traffic.
