Cycling Rannoch - Corrour Station | A night in the Signal Box | Bikepacking | Scottish Highlands

We've tried to do this three times and always been thwarted by the weather. Finally we made it to Corrour station for a night in the signal box. Started at Rannoch, cycled over the hills to Loch Ossian. Spun around the loch and treated ourselves to a night somewhere warm and dry with good food, and a few drinks!

A few years ago I bailed on attempting the HT550, trekked out to Corrour with a broken bike and was about to kip in the waiting room on the platform when a bloke appeared at the door. "We're stopping in the signal box and have a spare room that you can use if you want!" There was even breakfast at the café included. One of those "It happens to other people but it'll never happen to me" moments.

Fabulous trip. I never realised there was accommodation at Corrour other than the Hostel. I haven't been there since July 2003 when walking from Dalwhinnie to Fort William. Great memories seeing around Loch Ossian again. Thanks guys & health & happiness to you both in 2023.

I love Loch Ossian! I camped there in the 1980’s, left my tent in the old shelter on the platform at Corrour when I tabbed into Culra Bothy over the hills. Came back the next day and it was still there. Hoping to go back soon as we have a grand cycle trip planned. The lodge at the east end of the loch is something else! Thanks for sharing!

Great vid. Thanks. Love the hills around Loch Ossian. Also good to see Corrour station still has a cafe and now a letting room. Try the youth hostel. It’s great, basic, fun.

what a great multi-mode (train, bike) adventure. the little station looked excellent. always nice to stay warm and dry, and not have to pack your home.

Thanks for watching David, glad you enjoyed it. Even in the less that optimal weather conditions this was a super trip. The dodgy weather probably made it even better. As you say the scenery is superb, a special place with that feeling of total remoteness! 😊🙏 We had normal mountain bikes but these are far more fun. Takes a little bit of getting used to but once to realise it’s all about slow adventuring it then all falls into place and makes sense. Wouldn’t go back to normal bikes after those. Try hiring one! 😊🙏🤘

Yes it was. Nice and quiet just a couple of people that were staying and a few others from the hostel in the bar/restaurant. There’s three wee cozy rooms. Nice to take your Mrs. HNY. 😊🤘

Hi Alan, The weather actually fully dictated how we done this. We’ve tried to do it three times, spent a fortune and a lot of time. Finally got it done though! No… not in that rain/sleet! Asking for trouble going back in those conditions! Nice to get the train. Wooop! Thanks for watching mate! 😊

Hi Gavin, Thank you buddy. The rack is Topeak, can’t remember the exact model. Bothy Bikes - Kingussie. The panniers are Revelate Designs. We got those from backcountry.com based in Aviemore. The racks a little heavy but it’s the only one we could find to fit that bike. Apart from that the rack and bikepacking kit have been solid so far. Cheers D&L 😊🫡

Great video ! Is it possible to walk next to the railway from Rannoch station to Corrour station ? I saw that there was a longer track (avoiding the bog?) but I would prefer to follow the most direct path next to the railway. When I look on Google maps, I see no problem doing it but I heard the bog was annoying to go through.
