I biked to the top of a dormant volcano | Mt Albert 🇳🇿New Zealand 🚴🏻♂️ +GPS map
I'm being a bit dramatic but it’s actually true. Mt Albert is one of 53 dormant volcanoes in the Auckland isthmus. The last one that blew up was Rangitoto 600 years ago. They are mostly surrounded or integrated into suburbia but make no mistake, they all blew up at one time or another.
And it could happen again, any time...
Ōwairaka / Mount Albert is one of the older volcanoes in the Auckland volcanic field, and the westernmost volcanic feature.

The weather for this ride wasn't great. Grey muddy overcast with 20-25 knot cross wind from the west. The lighting was grim.
