I used the Dr Timms ammonia and I have got to say for someone who didn't have any established tanks it worked so well! I was trying the put fish food in and let it break down for ammonia spikes but I found it wasn't doing much and I would need to put a whole lot of food to get any readings. I would definitely recommend to people who dont have any cycled tanks/dont know any fish keepers/ dont want to risk getting media from pet stores!

You literally just take out the water. For an example a 50% water change means you take out half of the water in the tank. But make sure to refill it again and treat the water after every water change. I forgot to add this earlier but, in my opinon the best tool to use is a siphon because it helps get out the stuff in between the substrate

My axie cycle crashed after three years going strong and I feel like a failure. My family had an emergency this last year and I didn’t do my weekly water changes. My girls are tubbed and I’m trying to figure if I need to throw a heater in to their tank to get the tank to recycle through. Did an 80% water change last night. This morning Ammonia shows at 2ppm and nitrite.50 nitrates are red and I can’t tell if it 40 or 80, but I’m gonna assume it’s higher than lower. Plan to do a 30% today. My other axie tank is fine, but that’s probably because I’ve been keeping a regular schedule with it and it’s got my Lone Ranger male in it. I feel bad for my big girls 😭 I’m hoping that the cycle will be able to correct it’s self but I have no idea how long that can take. The temperature in the main tank is 60 right now. Hopefully the colonies will thrive again

I used to have some when I was a kid but I learned that I was taking care of them improperly and I want to do it right when I get a new one. But i would love to hear about the plants you suggest for the tank as well as any shrimp or other fish that can live along side Betta or maybe even what not to do and any thing else you would be willing to share!

This question isn't about cycling but just my fish's filter. I have a beta for around a year now and recently upgraded his tank. I had to get a new filter as his old one was connected to the tank. I forgot what the one I got was called but I put it behind the plants to keep it from being too strong. one day I came from school and he was sucked in by the filter, not into the filter but was stuck on the side. He's ok been a little shaken up but I want a new filter so this doesn't happen again. any recommendations? I love this fish and want him to have the best life I can provide.

i’ve had my betta for 4 months and he’s doing well so far. i usually do water changes every 2 weeks and about 1/4 (he’s in a 10 gallon) so far the only problem is there has been a lot of algae. i don’t have any live plants and i haven’t looked into it that much but i am considering getting some. but the algae on the glass is an orangish color and is pretty easy to remove. on my fake plants there’s a reddish algae that is really hard to get off. is it better to keep it there? sorry this was a mess im just a little concerned about it haha.

Yep with a gravel vacc, youll need gravity for a syphon/gravel to work (if tank is on a table, put bucket for dirty water on floor) basically put the gravel end in bottom of the tank get the hose and suck until the water runs through (put it in the bucket before the water hits your mouth, drinking tank water isnt fun lol) you should have water flowing into bucket now, you may need to repeat if it isnt. Then with the vacc move it around the substrate and it should suck away the poop/uneaten food etc and into the bucket. Hope that helps!

First and foremost, I’m loving your videos! They are the most informational axolotl resources I have found thus far! I own 2 adult (5-6 year old) axolotls and my cycle crashed BAD. The room we kept them in got hot this summer and I couldn’t figure out my gravel vacuum. One of my lotls has a fungal infection so to be safe I replaced everything in my tank including a new filter and am currently cycling. I bought the master kit but I’m treating this as a brand new tank and am not using previous filter media due to a new filter. I’m tubbing my lotls separately in the meantime with the fungi (hehe) in the fridge. What are my next steps? Do I test the water to make sure it’s safe and keep an eye on it, returning my healthy lotl? About how long will it take for my tank to be safe again?

If anyone knows the answer to this question I would really appreciate it! I recently discovered that the cycle in my axolotl's tank crashed (specifically there are too many nitrates and nitrites and the pH level is too low). I'm considering tubbing my axolotl while I fix the tank but an employee at the pet store I went too said that aquatic animals shouldn't go through anything more than a 50% water change and from what i've heard, tubbing requires a 100% water change daily. Is there a way for me to safely tub the axolotl, or should I find another way to fix their tank?

@Gdhaym8
@Gdhaym8 3 жыл бұрын
Once you cycle your tank and all the levels are at a good place for your fish to now go in and everything’s all fine, do you ever have to ever go through the cycling process again? Or just the daily/weekly 20% water changes, occasional 80-90% changes and what not... And do you have to keep purchasing the water test kits or do you only need to get one that’ll last for the whole course of the fish tank cycling process?

Hey, we just got our first axie 3 weeks ago. We had the tank 6 months prior and cycled it. The first two weeks were great, we did water changes and testing levels, the only thing that registered was nitrate’s at a reasonable level. My husband did change the carbon insert after week one and we were adding prime and stabilize at water changes. 3 days ago our nitrates spiked really high. Ammonia levels are good. We’ve done daily water changes to bring nitrates down but by the next morning they’re high again. What would you recommend? I’m feeling tubbing our axie and re cycling until the levels are safe, but would love some guidance. Thank you in advance 😊
