My dream reef tank is being really stubborn with the initial cycle... it just wont process ammonia! So I am pulling out all the stops and throwing some more heavy hitting products at it to speed it up and get this bacteria moving!

Maybe the problem is the absence of the rock in your display. No matter how much bacteria you introduce, it has very few places to go. I know you plan to move your rock from the other tank and maybe you should start doing it, as corals don't care about ammonia. You can start with just a part of it and spread the move among many days (rock, corals and fish).

possibly, certainly adding the extra rock in the form of AF Bio Fil in the reactor made all the difference cycled within 48 hours after that

Appreciate the comments about tank maturation. Everyone talks about cycles, not enough content out there about tank maturation. Hope to see more content about it as you go :)

Maybe you can try dropping your salinity to 1.o15 and using your temperature to 85f, see how that goes. Good luck..

Glad you’ve finally got your tank cycled I did my 655 litre a couple of months ago, I used reef some 9 , with doctor Tim’s ammonia and i recon it was done in a week or so now my tank up and running, I started moving softies and some lps over slowly from my red sea reefer 250, but on Saturday night I finally got impatient and decided just to move everything over, I put all the rock from my old tank in with my new scape but I will slowly be removing all the acros of the old rock and removing most of the old rock out of the tank, have a look on KZfaq, type in Colin Garvie and see what you think, see you next time, nothing happens fast but I know it sucks big time having 2 tanks running, you will get there soon, Colin 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I think adding rock would certainly help give the bacteria a place to occupy and build up. Would you even try run a water change on the other tank and put the water you've removed into the new system to seed it with your existing tank's fauna?

This is so hard for a beginner like me to understand 😢. I have my saltwater ready and up to temp. Plenty of sand and rock Can I just put two clownfish in to cycle now??

perhaps prodibio is the way to go, I've had success cycling quickly with that.

Nice! I used Life BioFil and cycled live rock, then 2 weeks into it a bottle of Tims and pure Ammonia to get to 4ppm Ammonia. About 2 months into it using NP Pro and Pro Bio S daily. You just dont want to introduce all the items you showed in the same week I think. Im pretty sure some of the labels such as Life BioFil state not to double up with other bacteria

its cycled now, and has substantially more live media in there so I think no issues at this point

I realize this is an older video, but thought I’d share. I’ve had 2 bottles of Dr. Tim’s that had apparently gone bad before the printed expiration date. As a test, I mixed up 6L of saltwater and added the appropriate amount of Dr. Tims. Should have 0ppm ammonia right? Well I tested for ammonia in the sample and it was 4+ppm. So could be you/others haven’t actually added viable bacteria despite good intentions.

reef revolution is for saltwater and fresh water, love to asks them some questions about this, seems like a massive waste for a reefer seems half the bacteria isnt event utilized assuming a 50/50 mix

I dont know what strains Reef revolution contains, they dont disclose it, however I have the bottle sitting in the fridge so thought I may as well use it!

@@ReefNerd yea for sure may as well. i have seen videos done by doctor tim saying not to trust anyone who says their bacteria is for salt and fresh water. a vid he did with Mr salt water tank.

Interesting that it was taking so long, how long did it take? Perhaps the conditions were slightly different to your old tank so the bacteria didn't take. I use seachem matrix in my filter, it's very similar by the looks to the bio-phil media you have. A friend of mine is struggling to get her tank to cycle too.. the wait kills us!

how did it go mate? what timeline was your cycle like with the kitchen sink approach? Im having a bit of an issue myself but I havent been so patient either so 5 days in with cycled sea chem matrix which should process ammonia for a tank 10 times the size of the tank.

You have caused this problem yourself, buddy. If you had stuck to your original plan everything would be hunky-dory by now. I moved an entire set-up in one go and nothing died not even the Acropora. I added a few scoops of the old dirty sand also and mixed it in with the new. I got a little bit of cyano and dino's after the move but within a month it was all gone and the tank was fine. Also as mentioned before you don't have enough live rock for a display that size. You're basically having to wait until the sand has cycled.

Maybe. I just didn’t want to risk the Insta transfer. I had the time so a basic cycle THEN the full transfer seemed safer to me

Maybe its because you aint got enough rockwork? Why didnt you add the aquascape before adding water?

Because the aqua scape is established and full of coral and in the old tank ;) didn’t want to transfer it across til the new tank had completed a basic cycle.

dosing NP bacteria is the worst thing you can do while establishing nitrifying bacteria, dont take my word for it but, DM doctor Tim he will tell you the same thing
