Cam I follow you for long now and I can confirm that this video is the greatest and the most impressive you've already done on your channel. Great scenery and amazing shots (like the aerial view of the car on the bridge). Mate, you've level up so much that no one in the cycling youtube game could fight with you (even GCN ^^). Can't wait for the next one ! Thanks Cam :)

I think getting the drone out a couple of times to watch the motorhome drive over bridges etc would have saved some time. Also filming the motorhome drive away, then driving back to get the camera. 😁 but despite the title, it sounds like the challenge was more of a side thing. You can't trump the experience as a whole really! Great video!

Great video Cameron, since you asked, the "golf ball" thing on top of Great Dun Fell is a radome which contains both primary and secondary surveillance radars which are used by UK air traffic control (NATS, National Air Traffic Surveillance) and also a repeater site for air traffic control communication with aircraft amongst many other antennas that are up there :)

Bealach na Bà at Applecross. “Bealach na Bà is a winding single track road through the mountains of the Applecross peninsula, in Wester Ross in the Scottish Highlands. The Bealach na Bà is just one feature on this road, being its highest point and site of several corries. The historic mountain pass was built in 1822 and is engineered similarly to roads through the great mountain passes in the Alps, with very tight hairpin bends that switch back and forth up the hillside and gradients that approach 20%. It has the steepest ascent of any road climb in the UK, rising from sea level at Applecross to 626 metres (2,054 ft), and is the third highest road in Scotland.”

The answer is: YES YOU CAN! I also make videos for different projects and now started my own vlog... Small details like you placing the camera down and coming back cycling to the van, doing the drone shot, etc... those take time! If you did not spend time filming, you would have done it. I would take an hour out of the total time to make it fair. So you did do it under 12 hours. Congrats mate!

Nice idea and video (as usually). Last time i climbed the Lecht i left my arm warmers at the top forcing a 2nd ascent. Balls. Next up for you might be the biggest climb in the UK which i think is the Bealach Nam Ba - sea level to 650m and back to sea level in about 15km. But if you do go, the coastal loop to get back to the start is arguably harder than the climb itself. Its just relentless ups and downs. Borrow the van - its stunning up there.

A lot of the attempts at Lowther hill will have been people whose climbing started at the bottom of the leadhills - either at Abington, Elvanfoot or the other side up from the Mennock pass. If you drive up to Wanlockhead and start from there - yes you're going to be a lot fresher. You're only doing half the climb! The Mennock pass side is the longer climb. Try that.

Good effort on Lowther, but snow up there in May is not that uncommon. The golf ball at the top of lowther is for civil aviation radar equipment and along at the next hill of Green Lowther is for British Telecom as my dad used to work for BT and maintain equipment on Green Lowther. The buildings that you passed at the bottom of the climb store snow track vehicles for civil aviation and BT so that they can get up to the top of the climb in the winter as there can sometimes be 4ft or more snow drifts on the hill. The snow tracks have rubber caterpillar tracks to drive on top of the snow. It is also why there are snow poles on both sides of that climb up to the top. 👍
