Don't ever tell me about stationary phone drivers - this driver, like most of those I catch, was also using it when moving.

That's Uxbridge road, it's a very long road. You see nothing but motor vehicles parked like that as far along 'til Southhall. The biggest problem is that nobody enforces it. The police leave it to the local councils to do that. They of course don't do enough. If anything. Ealing is even worse than what you see there.

This is exactly why I don't ride on the road anymore , I'm 70 and must of done 250,000 miles in my life and now I'm not risking my safety. These drivers with evidence like this should be given a five year ban, I can sort of understand a stationary vehicle with traffic like the videos in the park but driving and using the phone is not on. Even the distraction on the dashboard with modern cars is frightening, these small tv screens , music tech, mass of buttons etc, I've had the safest days on a bike. Well done Mickey for your dedication in filming these drivers, perhaps on a day off cycle on the cycle path on the Frank Branson way, Kempston , Bedford bypass at 8.00 am onwards, I cycle across the river Ouse at that time and always see at least two drivers and that is about 1 minute to cross.

"I can sort of understand a stationary vehicle with traffic like the videos in the park..." - They aren't stationary though, the queue keeps moving, but they don't hang up, they keep talking/scrolling/typing on. Those morons do cause many road collisions which is also part of the reason motoring insurance premiums cost as much as they do, which do affect me and you if you drive.
@CyclingMikey

Stationary phone drivers are still dangerous for many reasons: 1) The people using their phones when stationary are very often the same people using them when moving. They only put the phone down because I caught them. 2) They are entirely unaware of people crossing the road around them. See here where a phone driver almost hits someone in the queue twitter.com/phonekills/status/1491526464520560641?s=20 See this other tweet where a 5 year old child is almost hit by a phone driver who was stationary: x.com/cmdkenyon/status/1724483042046067052?s=20 And another: x.com/WelshBrendan2/status/1796099766557774129 3) They are entirely unaware of filtering cyclists and motorcyclists, despite the Highway Code requiring us to be aware of this. 4) Phone distraction lasts for a good time after you put the phone away. Even if you're only using the phone in each traffic queue at each junction (which is highly unlikely), then you're constantly topping up your mental distraction and are basically as disabled as a drunk driver. 5) Phone driving is worse than drink driving for distraction rates, and that's why it's part of the #Fatal4 behaviours that police target heavily. 6) Here's a police officer telling you that he has been on the scene for 3 fatal RTCs involving drivers who were stationary whilst using their phones, and then moved off and caused a collision: twitter.com/markandcharlie/status/1604073330751197184?s=20&t=uj8sgu7spu4cTyDqqqds2g 7) Policing phone drivers will help them stop other traffic offences too - it's vanishingly rare that someone only breaks a single traffic law like mobile phone use. 8) Parliament recently chose to strengthen the mobile phone law around stationary phone use because it's dangerous and the science supports this. I'm really not interested in this nonsense of "it's not dangerous when stationary, because it clearly is and it's clearly still very appropriate to catch these drivers.

@@sabni8668the poles let you swing in and out when needed-and mostly stop vehicles parking "just for a minute" in them. But the entrances to the lanes need to be at junctions, not on some bit of road where it's easy to block. I think they will probably have a shorter life too: it's easy to crush them with van or an HGV, and after enough repeated destruction, councils give up. And as it only takes an afternoon to remove, that can happen without warning

Grass/snitch/snake are words used by only by children and criminals. Which one are you? The idea that anyone anywhere could video you any time takes all the fun out of anti-social driving. The sense of paranoia really eats away at you. 3rd party video reporting has exploded across the UK. In London in 2022 almost 15,000 such prosecutions were started. There are tens of thousands of people videoing and reporting bad driving.

* There is no road tax - it was abolished in the 1930s to stop entitled drivers from claiming that they own the public highway. You mean VED, a pollution tax. It's obvious why cyclists and pedestrians don't pay that tax. * As a driver you're a freeloader - the sum of motoring taxes in the UK is far less than the sum cost of motoring to society. All drivers are heavily subsidised by non-driving taxpayers. * You drive only via revocable licence; your driving is a privilege and not a right. Cyclists, pedestrians and horse riders/carriages all use the public highway by right and were there before cars were. Know your place. * You're required by law as a driver to have MOT, VED, insurance, and a licence; cyclists, pedestrians, and horse riders/carriages are not required to have these. None of these payments change the fact that your driving is a privilege and not a right. * Drivers are more lawbreaking than cyclists. www.forbes.com/sites/carltonreid/2019/05/10/cyclists-break-far-fewer-road-rules-than-motorists-finds-new-video-study/ * I have a playlist of drivers disqualified by the courts as a result of cyclist videos here: kzfaq.info/sun/PL50HnB_iNgL4VLK1XXwdYkX2kn3Bbjh7B
