First computer I’ve used instead of just a phone. Love the LEDs for turn by turn. Also works well with the Garmin Varia.

My first ever cycling computer was the the Wahoo ELEMNT. Gotta say I really really loved the box design, the entire packaging and was a joy to unbox. The simplicity of using an app and not being tied to USB cables and a pc was nice and being able to quickly add routes from Strava etc has been good. With so many crazy streets in Tokyo, hardly any grid like network the device navigation suggestions can be interesting but get me to my destination. Will definitely upgrade in the future.

Navigation feature not mentioned: you can search for addresses or POIs on the phone app (using voice, even) and transfer the route to the computer.

One thing consumers get confused with is the usage of the mobile phone, many potential buyers believe that the mobile phone needs to remain turned on while using. They fear that the mobile phone's GPS will drain the battery ... when in fact the mobile phone is only used to change the screen display. The actual unit uses it's own mobile GPS chipset... you can shut off your mobile phone completely.

I have a Wahoo Elemnt Roam navigation is extremely accurate I used it in the White Mountains of New Hampshire USA 🇺🇸 had no problem. With the Garmin had lots of trouble which is why I switched

Pairing is done by the unit and not phone. Actually, you can add sensors even without phone directly on unit.

For me tbe end of corrupted ride data from previous Garmin devices was the real benefit in switching to Wahoo along with the battery life. The bolt was so good I would consider getting the roam and passing the bolt onto a friend

Just got one. The last computer was a cateye stealth 50 bundle. It was ok. However it got a bit glitchy. I have just done the teams initial set up. Damned easy. I am sooo looking forward to using this and planning days out.

Good review. True and precise. One add-on if I may : easy on tightening the mount onto the handle bar. The metal screw is only supported by the plastic casing of the mount itself. No metal washer to strengthen the thing if one gives it a tad too much force tightening it to the handle bar. In that case, the screw will just go through the casing. Happened to moi. Not fun. Had to bodge (or hack) a home-made repair by ‘“sculpting” a receptacle for a metallic washer, serving as a footing for the screw. The thing should be designed as such in my humble opinion. Otherwise, great unit to ride with. :-)

Few questions, 1) would you recommend Roam or Bolt?, 2) what sun glasses did you use in the video?

I have the Bolt and it is the best!!! I could never go back to Garmin because it is slow at picking up GPS when Wahoo picks up right away. Routes linking to your smart phones and Strava is so quick it is a Garmin killer. I wish they had a smart watch because I know some people stay with Garmin only because either they have the Garmin Powermeter or the Smart watch that links to the device.

I have added Garmin varia radar and specialized Angi crash sensor to the Roam for added safety on and off the road. I did loose a friend last year in a cycling accident and now use any safety related products especially as they are now fully integrated to the Roam eg the Garmin 510 Radar and the Angi crash sensor. r.

I have to agree with the criticism of the buttons on the Roam. They're surprisingly harder to activate than the buttons on the Elemnt Bolt. It's a curious regression in the device functionality.

When is the new wahoo roam coming. This one has been around for a while. The bolt v2 has been updated. Any information about this.

Nice job reviewing. I have one of these on the way. It'll be my first dedicated cycling computer. You mentioned the route back to start feature ... can you pick the starting point? Assume I load a route from a friend's Strava, that starts far away from my current location, but which has points that are near my current location. Can one change the start and end points so the unit will route/start/end at the point closest to my current location? I read the unit supports the following Satellites: GPS, GLONASS, BEIDOU Galileo, and QZSS, but also couldn't tell if they could be selected.

Thanks for the video. Do you know if the Roam will fit other mounts that the Bolt fits or did they change the locking mechanism? I have a bike with enve aerobars and an enve mount that fits my Bolt but want to make sure the same mount would fit before I decide to by the Roam.

I just cant figure out how to start the turn by turn navigation. I load my file from strava in to the wahoo elemnt and it shows me the maps with the streets i need to go in arrows but no such a thing as go left in 400m or something can anyone tell me how i can make this work please? 😶

One thing I would like to know is whether, in your opinion, it is worth (currently) £120 more than the Elemnt Bolt? The colour screen and additional navigation features are nice but seems a lot of money for just this ... unless I'm missing something? 🤔

I was bought this for Xmas and think it's very good. My only issue is it appears to be for mountain biking mostly as when I typed in a destination it created a route which involved muddy foot paths and general places you wouldn't use a road bike. I just create routes beforehand using strava route builder

Could I please ask if you, Rupert, or anyone else has experienced problems uploading a route? I think some route files sometimes lack all the required info, and make things like turn-by-turn fail. Or is that Bryton specific?

The wahoo roam is useless because the elevation is reading below strava and garmin, I contacted wahoo about this and gave them the details of my ride which was 200km with 970m climbing on the wahoo, 1230 on strava, 1240m gain on garmin, they told me the reading would have to be out 121m in 10 km, which means that my 200km cycle would have to read about 10m gained in 200km before they would address the problem, the wahoo roam is useless in Ireland because it is all hills and hollows #wahooroam #wahooroamuseless# #wahooroamelevationwrong#

I am looking for hardware or app that I can see heart rate and map at the same time. This is the closest I have seen. (you didn't show it, but I can imagine the lights could be used to monitor HR while your looking at the map) My question is, is this the only way to get both HR and map on one app or hardware screen?

Mini USB? Are we still in 2020? That's just pure laziness. No Touch screen? Screen refresh rate is abysmal. You can get a good cell phone unit for that price (not for communication) with IP65 rating, latest google map, bike app, wireless charging, color screen, a snapdragon processor that will blow the lid out of this thing. Put a Pelican case on and its' game over.

REALLY BUGGY. Contantly rebooting when connected to Wifi. Was never able to update the Maps. I'm returning it.
