I love the Cyclone. It's the least expensive mid drive, but it outperforms virtually all available mid drives regardless of price.

damn that's one heck of a setup you got there I like what you did with the motor she's ready for anything!

In your video, you said you upgraded your tires and wheels. Please tell us which wheels did you use to pair up with your Maxxis Hookworm tires? Nice video BTW :)

Nice set up , I just bought the Cyclone kit that I'm about to mount on a Fatbike . I have been looking at a couple different bike computers both wired . How do you like the Cateye wireless , does it perform well ?
@rLipiner6 жыл бұрын
Rastafari Jah I do not recommend the cateye wireless. I have to replace the battery every other week in the wheel speed sensor in order for it to pick up the high speeds over 30 mph. I would recommend this ebike computer from Luna cycles. lunacycle.com/gauges/batt-man-ebike-amp-hour-fuel-gauge/ It tells you your speed along with a bunch of other useful ebike info all on one screen. In addition, the screen has backlighting so you can see it at night. The cat eye does not have any backlight making it impossible to read at night unless you glance down for a brief second as you ride under a street light. Another benefit is that it runs off of power from your ebike battery so you do not have to worry about the tiny button cells dying on you. Thanks for your interest and have fun with your ebike build.

Thanks for answering so promptly , I was just about to pull the trigger on that Cateye . I will check out that Luna Cycle Computer . Thanks again

Dope E-MTB build, what 6s lipos did you use? I see you're into RC, so am I mostly planes and freestyle/racing drones. Curious what size you used and I have a battery sponsor chinahobbyline CNHL. I want to purchase this mid drive for my vintage fat wheel beach Cruiser, will probably ruin the looks but oh well, lol.
@rLipiner4 жыл бұрын
The 6s lipos were made by venom but they are now discontinued. They are 22amp hour 45c 6s lipos. Is a little overkill for a 3000w ebike but the price was right so I jumped on a good deal.

Thanks for the tip about the SBP front freewheel bearing! Do you know if it fits the ISIS BB? I would of picked up the Luna Cycles Luna-Tic, but it only fits square drive BB. And now that it's been over a year with this setup, how has the SBP freewheel held up?
@rLipiner6 жыл бұрын
Chris Duke Yes it does fit with the isis BB. I have an isis BB on my setup
@rLipiner6 жыл бұрын
Chris Duke Sick bike parts freewheel is made extremely well. I have over 1000 miles on it and it is still like new. I can not imagine it wearing out anytime soon. Supposedly on SBP website it says it’s rebuildable. Make sure you get the freewheel removal tool if you do buy it as the one that comes with the cyclone kit will not fit.

Cool! Good to know! Thanks for the reply R.L!

I finally had a chance today to start assembly of my bike with the 3kw Cyclone. Yeah, that factory freewheel is loud compared to the SBP one you show in this video. I haven't hooked a battery to it yet. I'll be ordering the SBP this coming week. I only hope the factory freewheel don't break before I get the upgraded part!
@rLipiner6 жыл бұрын
Chris Duke Congrats on starting your bike. I’d like to see how it comes out. I’d be happy to help if you run into any trouble with the build. Btw you are probably going to want to upgrade the stock motor mount to something more sturdy. Mine snapped while riding, but Cyclone may have upgraded since I bought it.

Hi, I really like your setup. I am thinking about creating such setup myself, but, I never built e-bike before, so, it will be my first time doing it, and, I have some doubts about my ability, due to the fact that in the Luna Cycle site the stress that this kit is for experienced builders (which I'm obvious not) ... would you be able to help (maybe via mail) What do you think? is it that hard to build? I fixed my bike regularly, I am not afraid of working with my hands replacing anything on the bike, its just that I never had any experience with electric bicycles... BTW, I liked your headlights, reminds me of johnny 5
@rLipiner7 жыл бұрын
Jozsef Samuel This is my first ever electric bike build. It did take some finicking in order to get it to run good. Pretty much everything is bolt on with this kit. So if you have a basic understanding on simple mechanics it shouldn't be too challenging. Knowing how to solder wires is a big plus. Main things I had trouble with is aligning the new chainring with the rear derailleur so that the chain doesn't pop off. Also The stock motor mount and bottom bracket freewheel need to be upgrade because they will break fast with this much torque. I'm happy to help you through the build. If there's something I can't answer, there are plenty people and forums online to help you with the build. Best of luck if you do decide to go through with it.

My problem is with the calculations for the right battery... Different people are using different batteries with different voltage and different current... Etc
@jozzzsams34817 жыл бұрын
Also The stock motor mount and bottom bracket freewheel need to be upgrade because they will break fast with this much torque. So... What did you upgrade it to?
@rLipiner7 жыл бұрын
battery math can be a little intimidating to a beginner. There is alott of factors to consider when deciding what batter is right for you. What exactly are you confused about with the battery calculations so I can further help you?
@rLipiner7 жыл бұрын
I upgraded my frewheel to the super heavy duty freewheel made my sick bike parts. The motor mount that I use comes from LA Ebikes.

top speed? and amount of batteries for the 30 mile range? oh and voltage? Currently I just converted a KHS xc535 but the take off exceleration is ...meh... top speed is 34mph and rangeof 11miles on a 7.5 ah battery at 48v with a hub motor.
@rLipiner7 жыл бұрын
Donal Romano I use three 22000mah 6s lipo batteries wired in series to make a 66.6v battery pack. I weigh about 150lbs and will pull me around at 40+ mph with a 30 mile range.
@TheGhostfaceKLR7 жыл бұрын
Nice setup. How is it running a hardtail at 30+mph? I've read some comments from people who've done hardtail ebike conversions recommending doing a full-suspension bike instead. As a road bike rider (with typical skinny road bike tires) and as a motorcycle rider (with, obviously, full suspension) I think I'm leaning towards full-suspension.

Man, you did not tell us the only important thing and that is how many volts your battery has. You can't talk about how much power it has when you don't mention the batteries. 36v battery will have half the power of 72v
@rLipiner6 жыл бұрын
jirka merunka “Cyclone 3000w” is just the name of the mid drive kit. I use multiple lipo batteries so depending on how I wire them together, for performance or range, will change the voltage on any given ride. If you want to know how much power it can make, I’ll do the math. Maxing out the stock 40a controller with a fully charged 72v battery “84v” excluding voltage sag and burst amps would be 40a•84v=3,360watts of power. This is likely why it is called the cyclone 3000w kit. I have upgraded the stock controller since this video to a 60a 72v speed controller. Using the same fully charged 72v battery at 84v the power would be 60a•84v=5,040watts. I don’t push this many watts through the motor for long periods of time as it will overheat. I usually run 22ah of 18s lipo “66.6v nominal 75.6v fully charged so I don’t overheat the motor. Thank you for your comment and I’m glad to answer any other questions you may have.
