A new tropical cyclone appears to be forming this morning in the middle of the Bay of Bengal, between India and Myanmar. With rapid development expected, and the potential for rapid intensification into the weekend, the coast of India and Bangladesh is already on alert for hurricane force winds and torrential rain. The storm is expected to curve away from Myanmar and approach northeast India and Bangladesh by Saturday, but the forecast track is still very uncertain, with scenarios ranging from landfall in Andhra Pradesh all the way east to the Ganges river delta. Monsoonal storms off to the east of the storm will also cause major issues primarily for Myanmar, with rainfall of up to 40 inches (1000mm) possible. Some of this rain may spill into Thailand. For the main body of the storm, rainfall of up to 20 inches (500mm) could be expected where it makes landfall, along with winds of over 100 miles per hour (160kph).
