This is why I really respected Johnny Carson. He was very fond of artists like Cyndi Lauper and Grace Jones, and he loved them so much that they would come on his show often., I've always loved Cyndi, and still do to this day.
@mikestevenson57624 күн бұрын
Carson/Lauper was fascinating to me. Most youth-oriented pop stars avoided Johnny's show because 'it wasn't cool'. They wanted SNL, Dave, and MTV. But Lauper did 4 hits on Carson right out of the gate and gave him the platinum album.

Miss lauper was certainly not dumb on those interviews. She was a fantastic judge of character and good at anticipating what people wanted . She guessed that these talk show hosts saw her as a silly young girl and basically not only gave them what they wanted she crammed it down their throats hehe. Certainly was what one of the show runners called a kick in the head! But every single human on the planet who is a slave to fashion or peer pressure should stop and sit and watch these interviews and listen to the music because that woman owned the 80s not through being the same but by being individual,and unlike most of the competition she let her voice do the talking not her body and she did it without outrage or scandal. Maddona etc yes good singers.. but cyndi ,a good singer AND a thoroughly beautiful decent human being. True to herself, and always has been.
@Grasshopper80s4ever5 жыл бұрын
Have to look into it but I think Cyndi Lauper even turned down Playboy magazine . Girls like her could get paid a fortune for doing photo shots for Playboy but yet she turned it down. Cindy was truly a beautiful girl inside and out . Totally different than today's trash such as Miley Cyrus or Britney Spears

OH MY GOD i could not agree with you more. She was and IS simply fantastic. And honestly, she does come across as ditsy in those interviews, but i wonder if that is all somehow scripted? Maybe that's all written. I agree that she knew exactly what she was doing and knew exactly how to get people the way she did. Original and pure. Just love her.

I was a young teenager in the 80's and I'm just now been watching all these Cyndi Lauper on various Late Night shows from back then - Johnny Carson, Letterman. I must say I never knew Cyndi back then, like I am learning now. As a kid, all I paid attention to was what was on the radio and MTV. I'm learning now just how entertaining and such an awesome person Cyndi is to listen to. Her stories and the way she talks, pure bred NYer, makes me smile & laugh so much. I think she would have had a good career as a comedian. I love her. The sad thing is that my memory of the 80's as that Cyndi, did not get the respect, notoriety, the awards and level of fame that she deserved. What I mean is, I feel like back then Madonna was bigger than Cyndi and she lived in the shadows of Madonna. Cyndi was popular mostly in the mid to maybe late 80's. By the 1990's Cyndi seemed to disappear, while Madonna continued to have success.
